Dunn, Indiana
Dunn is an extinct town in Hickory Grove Township, Benton County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Named for Capt. James Dunn, it stands about one and a half miles east of Dunnington. Emmett Reid Dunn
Emmett Reid Dunn (November 21, 1894 in Alexandria, Virginia – February 13, 1956) was an American Herpetology, herpetologist noted for his work in Panama and for studies of salamanders in the Eastern United States. Biography He attended Haverford College as an undergraduate and received his PhD from Harvard University. After receiving his PhD, he taught at Smith College. He left Smith to study on a Guggenheim Fellowship, following which he became a professor of biology at Haverford College. He was also curator of reptiles and amphibians at the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia. He served as editor of ''Copeia'' from 1924 to 1929. Dunn's Famous Deli and Steakhouse is a chain of Jewish delis serving Montreal-style smoked meat, pastrami and cheesecake founded in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, by Myer Dunn. History Dunn, who immigrated to Canada in 1911, opened his first restaurant in 1927 on Avenue Papineau near Avenue du Mont-Royal. In 1948 he opened his first restaurant to be called "Dunn's Famous Delicatessen" at the corner of Avenue du Parc and Avenue du Mont-Royal. In 1955 he opened his flagship restaurant at 892 Saint Catherine Street West. The storefront windows were famous for the top-to-bottom stacks of large jars full of hot banana peppers. The deli was open 24 hours a day, unusual for restaurant in the downtown core. The Dunn Memorial Bridge, officially known as the Private Parker F. Dunn Memorial Bridge, carries US 9 and US 20 across the Hudson River between Albany, New York and Rensselaer, New York. Description Completed in 1969 to replace an earlier span bearing the same name, the highway bridge has a steel girder design. It is the southernmost toll-free road crossing of the Hudson. It is named for Parker F. Dunn, an Albany native who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his service in World War I. While traveling eastbound on the Dunn Memorial Bridge towards the City of Rensselaer, there is a noticeable stub where the road ends and traffic is "forced off" the bridge onto offramps for US Routes 9 and 20. Stephen Troyte Dunn (26 August 1868, Bristol - 18 April, 1938, Sheen, Surrey, England) was a British botanist. He described and systematized a significant number of plants around the world, his input most noticeable in the taxonomy of the flora of China. Among the plants he first scientifically described was ''Bauhinia blakeana'', the national flower of Hong Kong. Biography Born in Bristol in the family of Rev. James Dunn, of Northern Irish descent, S. T. Dunn was educated at Radley, and at Merton College, Oxford, where he earned his BA in classics.
