Boxing The Compass
The points of the compass are a set of horizontal, radially arrayed compass directions (or azimuths) used in navigation and cartography. A compass rose is primarily composed of four cardinal directions—north, east, south, and west—each separated by 90 degrees, and secondarily divided by four ordinal (intercardinal) directions—northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest—each located halfway between two cardinal directions. Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE) is an award granted to individuals that the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland's national academy of science and letters, judged to be "eminently distinguished in their subject". This society received a royal charter in 1783, allowing for its expansion. Nora Miller
Agnes Eleanora Miller FRSE (1898–1994) was a Scottish zoologist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Life She was born in Dunipace in central Scotland on 7 September 1898, the eldest daughter of William Douglas Miller and his wife Agnes Cameron Adam, a singer and pianist who studied under Sir Hubert Parry. In 1906, the family moved to 57 Kirklee Road in Glasgow. She was educated at Westbourne School for Girls, Glasgow and then attended Skerry's College for a year. She then attended the University of Glasgow, originally studying medicine but changing to Zoology under the influence of John Graham Kerr, graduating with a Master's degree in 1920. She became Kerr's Demonstrator in 1924, and began lecturing in Zoology in 1929. In 1954 she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Still Game
''Still Game'' is a Scottish sitcom, produced by The Comedy Unit with BBC Scotland. It was created by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, who played the lead characters, Jack Jarvis, Esq and Victor McDade, two Glaswegian pensioners. The characters first appeared in the pair's previous TV sketch show ''Chewin' the Fat'', which aired in Scotland from January 1999 until December 2005. Following its debut on 6 September 2002, 62 episodes of ''Still Game'' were aired, including Christmas and Hogmanay specials, in addition to almost 50 live shows. A pub (short for public house) is a kind of drinking establishment which is licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises. William Wallace
Sir William Wallace ( gd, Uilleam Uallas, ; Norman French: ; 23 August 1305) was a Scottish knight who became one of the main leaders during the First War of Scottish Independence. Along with Andrew Moray, Wallace defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in September 1297. He was appointed Guardian of Scotland and served until his defeat at the Battle of Falkirk in July 1298. In August 1305, Wallace was captured in Robroyston, near Glasgow, and handed over to King Edward I of England, who had him hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason and crimes against English civilians. Since his death, Wallace has obtained an iconic status far beyond his homeland. He is the protagonist of Blind Harry's 15th-century epic poem '' The Wallace'' and the subject of literary works by Jane Porter and Sir Walter Scott, and of the Academy Award-winning film '' Braveheart''. Denny, Falkirk
Denny ( gd, Deanaidh) is a town in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. Historically in Stirlingshire, it is situated west of Falkirk, and northeast of Cumbernauld, adjacent to both the M80 and M876 motorways. At the 2011 census, Denny had a resident population of 8,300. History Denny is separated from neighbouring village Dunipace by the River Carron. A stone bridge was built over the river in 1825. Denny Town House was completed in 1931. Until the early 1980s, Denny was a centre for heavy industry, including several iron foundries, brickworks, a coal mine and paper mills. Falkirk (UK Parliament Constituency)
Falkirk is a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was created for the 2005 general election, replacing Falkirk West and part of Falkirk East. At the 2015 general election, it was the seat with the largest majority for the SNP as well as the seat with the largest majority for any party in Scotland. At the 2019 general election it again had the highest numerical majority of any SNP-won seat in Scotland, although other seats, including Aberdeen North, had higher majorities in percentage terms.
