Dungourney GAA
Dungourney GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dungourney, County Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling. It is a member of the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. The club was one of the strongest clubs in the Cork during the first decade of the 20th century. Its 3 Cork Senior Hurling Championship titles were the most by a club outside Cork City for many years. The best known player is Jamesy Kelleher who was included on Cork's Hurling Team of the Century. In 1902, the club represented Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. This resulted in the club winning the All-Ireland hurling title. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Cork Intermediate A Hurling Championship
The Cork Intermediate A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Intermediate A Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork IAHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the second tier intermediate clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fourth tier overall in the entire Cork hurling championship system. The Cork Intermediate Championship was introduced in 1909 as a competition that would bridge the gap between the senior grade and the junior grade. At the time of its creation it was the second tier of Cork hurling. In its soon-to-be introduced format, the Cork Intermediate A Championship will begin in April. Liam Ahern
Liam Ahern (12 January 1916 – 13 July 1974), also known as William Ahern, was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served in both Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann. Early and personal life Ahern's father, Eamon Ahern (1882–1953), was a member of Cork County Council from 1919 to 1953. He was a member of the IRA and the IRB. On Eamons' death, Liam was co-opted onto the council. Ahern's uncle, John Dinneen, was also a member of the Dáil between 1922 and 1927. Liam's uncle, Maurice Ahern (1899–1950), was captain of the East Cork 4th Battalion Number One Brigade of the IRA. In 1916, he led members of the Irish Volunteers from Dungourney, Clonmult and Ballynoe, under arms to Cork, and in the subsequent struggle was interned in Wakefield, Wandsworth and Frongoch prisons. Jim Ronayne
James William Ronayne (31 March 1877 – 6 August 1936) was an Irish hurler who played for the Cork senior team. Ronayne joined the team during the 1902 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1912 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal and six Munster medals. Maurice O'Shea (hurler)
Maurice O'Shea (27 December 1879 – 14 August 1911) was an Irish hurler who played as a forward with the Cork senior hurling team. He was an All-Ireland Championship winner in 1902. Career O'Shea began his hurling career at club level with Dungourney in East Cork. He played at a time when the club enjoyed its most successful era ever and won Cork Senior Championship titles in 1902, 1907 and 1909. At inter-county level, O'Shea first played for the Cork senior hurling team on 9 August 1903 in what was the delayed 1902 championship. After missing Cork's Munster Championship triumph, he later won an All-Ireland Championship medal after a 3-13 to no score defeat of London at the Cork Athletic Grounds. O'Shea later lined with Cork on a number of occasions before playing his last game on 29 August 1909. O'Shea died in a drowning accident at Lough Carrig Bay in Cork Harbour on 14 August 1911. East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship
The East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Michael O'Connor Motor Factors East Cork Junior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Imokilly Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1926 for junior hurling teams in East Cork. The series of games begin in June, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round. The East Cork Junior Championship is an integral part of the wider Cork Junior A Hurling Championship. Cork Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the ''Evening Echo'' Cork County Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1973 for the top tier under-21 hurling teams in the county of Cork in Ireland. The series of games are played from the summer to the winter months with the county final currently being played at Páirc Uí Rinn. The prize for the winning team is the Dick Barrett Cup. The championship uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. 22 clubs currently participate in the Premier Under-21 Championship.
