Dunfield, Newfoundland And Labrador
Dunfield is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is southwest of Catalina. It had a population of 222 in 1940, 193 in 1951 and 210 in 1956. Renamed in 1913, the present day Dunfield was once the community of Cuckold's Cove. Geography Dunfield is in Newfoundland within Subdivision J of Division No. 7. Demographics As a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Dunfield recorded a population of 78 living in 39 of its 46 total private dwellings, a change of from its 2011 population of 83. With a land area of , it had a population density of in 2016. Government Dunfield is a local service district (LSD) that is governed by a committee responsible for the provision of certain services to the community. The chair of the LSD committee is Vacant. Hugh Clifford Dunfield
Hugh Clifford Dunfield (April 2, 1891 – March 11, 1973) was a rancher, heating contractor and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Meadow Lake from 1952 to 1956 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Headingley, Manitoba, the son of John Dunfield and Mary McKillop, and was educated in Winnipeg, attending Wesley Methodist College. Dunfield came to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan in 1915. In 1918, he married Ella Carrigill. He was a supervisor for the Meadow Lake Indian Reserve and served on the local hospital board, the school board and the Board of Trade. Dunfield was also a justice of the peace and was mayor of Meadow Lake from 1958 to 1960. Kari Edith Dunfield is a Canadian microbiologist. She is a Canada Research Chair in Environmental Microbiology of Agro-ecosystems and Professor in Applied Soil Ecology in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph. , she is the co-editor of the ''Canadian Journal of Microbiology.'' Early life and education Dunfield earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Calgary in 1995 before enrolling at the University of Saskatchewan for her Master's degree and PhD. Career Upon receiving her PhD, Dunfield accepted a faculty position at the University of Guelph. In 2013, Dunfield was appointed a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Environmental Microbiology of Agro-ecosystems for a five year term. Nathan Dunfield
Nathan Michael Dunfield (born 1975) is an American mathematician, specializing in Topology. Career Dunfield did his undergraduate studies at Oregon State University, obtaining a B.S. in mathematics in 1994. For his graduate studies he went to the University of Chicago, obtaining his Ph.D. in 1999, with a thesis on ''Cyclic Surgery, Degrees of Maps of Character Curves, and Volume Rigidity for Hyperbolic Manifolds'' written under the supervision of Peter Shalen and Melvin Rothenberg. He then was a Benjamin Peirce Assistant Professor at Harvard University (1999–2003) and an associate professor at the California Institute of Technology (2003–2007), after which he moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he was promoted to professor in 2018. Peter Dunfield
Peter Dunfield (c. 1931 – May 25, 2014) was a Canadian figure skater and coach. He competed in four skating, winning the 1949 North American silver medal, and single skating. He is best known for coaching Elizabeth Manley to the 1988 Olympic silver medal. Career Dunfield competed in four skating with partners Mary Kenner, Peter Firstbrook, and Vera Smith. The group won the silver medal at the 1949 North American Championships. As a single skater, Dunfield won the Canadian national junior title in 1951 and bronze on the senior level in 1952 and 1953. He was sent to the 1953 World Championships in Davos, Switzerland and the 1954 World Championships in Oslo, Norway, placing eighth both times. From the early 1960s, Dunfield coached with his wife in New York City at the Sky Rink. When the rink closed around 1983, they moved to the Gloucester Skating Club in Orleans, Ontario. Sonya Klopfer Dunfield
Sonya Klopfer (married name: Dunfield, born December 26, 1934) is an American former competitive figure skater and coach. She is a two-time World medalist ( bronze in 1951, silver in 1952) and the 1951 U.S. national champion. Personal life Klopfer was born in New York City and was named after Sonja Henie. She married Canadian figure skater Peter Dunfield, with whom she had two sons. Career Klopfer won silver on the senior level at the 1950 U.S. Championships. She was then sent to Wembley, England to compete at her first World Championships and finished fifth. In 1951, Klopfer was awarded the gold medal at the U.S. Championships. Having won at age 15, she was the youngest U.S. senior ladies' champion until Tara Lipinski won in 1997 at age 14. Klopfer obtained the bronze medal in Milan at the 1951 World Championships, standing on the podium with Jeannette Altwegg and Jacqueline du Bief. Terence Dunfield (born February 20, 1982) is a Canadian former soccer player, coach and pundit who is head coach of Toronto FC's under-17s team, as well as soccer analyst for TSN and colour commentator for OneSoccer. As a player he was a midfielder who played in the Premier League although briefly for Manchester City, he also played in the English Football League for Bury, Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury Town and Oldham Athletic, with a brief stint in Scotland with Ross County. ''Denfield'' is a heritage-listed former farm homestead complex, residence, inn and farm and now residence located at Appin Road, St Helens Park in the City of Campbelltown local government area of New South Wales, Australia.
