Duncan Browne
Duncan John Browne (25 March 1947 – 28 May 1993) was an English singer-songwriter and musician. He is most remembered for his moderate hit single "Journey," which peaked at No. 23 in the U.K in 1972, and its corresponding 1973 album Duncan Browne, which has since garnered a cult status among fans of 1970s folk rock. Early life Browne was born on 25 March 1947, the only child of Air Commodore C. D. A. Browne. He initially intended to follow his father into the Royal Air Force but was turned down on health grounds while at the Worksop College. At school he was a promising schoolboy actor and clarinetist. Career Browne attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, studying both music theory and drama. ''Give Me Take You'' is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician Duncan Browne. It was released in 1968 through Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate Records. On the record, Browne employs a folk music sound that is informed by rock, pop, and classical elements, with baroque-inspired arrangements. The album spawned the single, "On the Bombsite," which failed to chart. Background and history Prior to his solo career, Browne was a member of the folk rock band Lorel, which was signed to Immediate Records. After their single, "A Whiter Shade of Pale", was rejected by the label, the band dissolved. ''Let's Dance'' is the 15th studio album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released on 14 April 1983 through EMI America Records. After the release of '' Scary Monsters'' (1980), Bowie began a period of numerous musical collaborations and film appearances. By 1982, he left RCA Records out of dissatisfaction and signed with EMI America. Wanting a fresh start, he chose Nile Rodgers of the band Chic to co-produce his next record. The album was recorded in December 1982 at the Power Station in New York City. ''Metro'' is the debut studio album by English rock band Metro. Recorded in 1976, it was released in 1977 through Transatlantic and Sire Records. Peter Godwin (singer)
Peter Godwin is an English new wave musician. He was a member of the band Metro, as well as a solo artist and songwriter. Godwin's song " Criminal World" was banned by the BBC on its initial release in 1977 due to bisexual overtones. Six years later, David Bowie covered "Criminal World" on his best-selling album, '' Let's Dance''. Adam Sweeting of ''Melody Maker'' disliked the song, saying it made "a strong plea for bulk erasure", while in a 2011 review, BBC writer David Quantick called the song one of the best on the album. In 1982, Godwin's "Images of Heaven" became a "cult favorite on New Wave radio stations". The dance remix of his song "Baby's in the Mountains" was a big dance hit and described as "intricate but direct". Godwin's 1983 solo studio album, '' Correspondence'' was issued by Polydor Records. ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. The Nice
The Nice were an English progressive rock band active in the late 1960s. They blended rock, jazz and classical music and were keyboardist Keith Emerson's first commercially successful band. The group was formed in 1967 by Emerson, Lee Jackson, David O'List and Ian Hague to back soul singer P. P. Arnold. After replacing Hague with Brian Davison, the group set out on their own, quickly developing a strong live following. The group's stage performances featured Emerson's Hammond organ showmanship and abuse of the instrument. Their compositions included radical rearrangements of classical music themes and Bob Dylan songs. The band achieved commercial success with an instrumental rearrangement of Leonard Bernstein's "America", following which O'List left the group.
