Dunbar High School (Dayton, Ohio)
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is part of Dayton City Schools. The school is located in Dayton, Ohio, and serves approximately 550 students. The school is named after poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, a Dayton native. The school mascot is the wolverine. About Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is the only historically African-American high school in Dayton. It was created to educate African-American youth and to employ teachers of color. The school originally opened on Summit Street in 1931 and graduated its first class in 1936. In 1962 a new Dunbar high school was opened and the original building was renamed MacFarlane Elementary. MacFarlane later became a middle school, it closed in 2003 and was razed in 2005. Dunbar competes in the Dayton City League. Dayton () is the sixth-largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Montgomery County. A small part of the city extends into Greene County. Jerry McKee
Gerald McKee (born August 4, 1946) is an American former basketball player. After an all-conference college career at Ohio University, he played briefly in the original American Basketball Association (ABA). McKee, a 6'3 guard, played for Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio where in 1965 he was named to the All-Ohio team. He then chose to play college basketball for the Ohio University Bobcats. McKee was named to the All-Mid-American Conference team for each of his three seasons for the Bobcats, twice earning second-team honors and securing a first-team nod as a senior in 1969. For his career, McKee scored 1,310 points (an average of 18.7 points per game). Following his college career, McKee was drafted in both the NBA and ABA drafts. Kelvin Kirk (December 31, 1953 – July 2, 2003) was an American football wide receiver and kick returner who played for seven seasons in the Canadian Football League. Geron Marquis Johnson (born August 9, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for Al Mouttahed Tripoli of the Lebanese Basketball League. He played two seasons of college basketball for the University of Memphis after playing for two community colleges. Johnny Green (basketball)
John M. "Jumpin' Johnny" Green (born December 8, 1933) is an American retired professional basketball player. Early life Green was born in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. Green was under six feet tall in high school and didn't play basketball. He worked part-time at a Dayton bowling alley and, after graduation, for a construction company and at a junkyard for six months before joining the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. It was while in the military that, at age 20, he sprouted to 6-foot-5 and played on the base's basketball team. Daequan Cook (born April 28, 1987) is an American former professional basketball player who last played for Ironi Nes Ziona of the Israeli Premier League. He was taken 21st overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers then subsequently traded to the Miami Heat.
