Duleep Wickramanayake
Major General Duleep Justin De Sliva Wickramanayake (5 September 1930 - 29 September 2017) was a general of the Sri Lanka Army. He served as the Director Operations and Training of the Sri Lanka Army. Born in Colombo, Wickramanayake was educated at Ananda Balika Primary School and at Ananda College, Colombo, where he played for the college cricket team and became a sergeant in the college cadet platoon. Joining the Ceylon Army in 1950, he received his training at Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot and at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. On his return he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Ceylon Artillery on 7 February 1952. He was promoted to lieutenant on 7 August 1953, captain on 1 October 1956 and major on 30 January 1962. Major General (Sri Lanka)
Major General (abbreviated as Maj Gen) is a senior rank in the Sri Lanka Army, and was created as a direct equivalent of the British military rank of major general. It is the second-highest active rank of the Sri Lanka Army while the Lieutenant General is the highest (the lieutenant general is the professional head of the army), and is considered to be equivalent to a two-star rank. A major general commands a division or the equivalent or performs staff duties in army headquarters. The Director of the National Cadet Corps holds the rank of major general. From 1958 to 1974, the Commander of the Army held the rank of Major General. Major general is a higher rank than brigadier, but lower than lieutenant general. Australian Defence College
The Australian Defence College (ADC) comprises three joint education and training organisations operated by the Australian Defence Force in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory: * the War College, * the Australian Defence Force Training Centre (ADFTC), and * the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). Republic Of Sri Lanka Armed Services Medal
The Republic of Sri Lanka Armed Services Medal was awarded to members of the regular and volunteer forces of the Military of Sri Lanka who were in service on 22 May 1972, subject to recommendation by the commanders of the respective service commanders. An acting rank is a designation that allows a soldier to assume a military rank—usually higher and usually temporary. They may assume that rank either with or without the pay and allowances appropriate to that grade, depending on the nature of the acting promotion. An acting officer may be ordered back to the previous grade. This situation may arise when a lower-ranking officer is called upon to replace a senior officer, or fill a position higher than the current rank held.
