Duke of Arco ( es, Duque del Arco) is a hereditary title in the Spanish nobility, peerage of Spain, accompanied by the dignity of Grandee and granted in 1715 by Philip V of Spain, Philip V to Alonso Manrique de Lara, 4th Count of Montehermoso, knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece and his caballerizo mayor for two periods, 1721–1724 and 1724–1737.Hidalgos de España (2018). p. 56 The title makes reference to the small village of Arco in Cañaveral, Spain, Cañaveral, province of Province of Cáceres, Cáceres, where the grantee held a lordship. This is a list of the 149 present and extant royal and non-royal dukes in the peerage of the Kingdom of Spain. The oldest six titles – created between 1380 and 1476 – were Duke of Medina Sidonia (1380), Duke of Alburquerque (1464), Duke of Segorbe (1469), Duke of Alba (1472), Duke of Escalona (1472), and Duke of Infantado (1475). Spanish dukes have precedence over other ranks of Spanish nobility, nowadays all holding the court rank of '' Grande de España'', ''i.e.'' Grandee of the Realm. Alonso Manrique de Lara y Silva (Galisteo, Cáceres, 11 January 1672 – Madrid, 27 March 1737), I Duke of Arco was an aristocrat who served the Spanish Royal House. Biography He was the second son of Pedro Manrique de Lara, Lord of Arquillo, and of Antonia de Silva of a noble family from Toledo. He married on 31 July 1695 with Mariana Enríquez de Portugal, daughter of the Count of Montenuevo. In 1700, he entered the service of the new King Philip V of Spain, fighting alongside him in the War of the Spanish Succession. In 1715, the King granted him the title of Duke of Arco, accompanied by the dignity of Grandee of Spain. In 1717, he bought some land where he commissioned the construction of his Quinta del Duque del Arco.
