Dug's Special Mission
''Dug's Special Mission'' is a 2009 American computer animated short film, directed by Ronnie del Carmen. It is tied into and included on the Blu-ray/ DVD releases of '' Up'' and ''Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 2''. According to Jonas Rivera, the producer of Pixar's film ''Up'', ''Dug's Special Mission'' "is a little bit of the backstory of what Dug was actually doing out there on this mysterious mission when we meet him n ''Up''. In the short, Dug is instructed on how to catch the bird (which he names Kevin) by Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, but their instructions are really intended to keep Dug away from them. Production Ronnie del Carmen explained "Dug was created very early in the development of the movie idea, even earlier than Russell", but little was known about his character on top of his supporting role, such as how or why he spoke. Ronnie Del Carmen
Ronnie del Carmen (born December 31, 1959) is a Filipino animation writer, director, story artist, story supervisor and production designer. He co-directed and was one of the story writers for the 2015 Pixar film '' Inside Out'', for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He was the story supervisor on Pixar's tenth full-length computer-animated film, '' Up'' and directed its accompanying short film, '' Dug's Special Mission''. Jordan Nagai
Jordan Nagai (born February 5, 2000) is an American student and former child voice actor. He is best known for his voice role as Russell in '' Up''. Career Jordan's older brother Hunter originally auditioned for Russell in '' Up''. Director Pete Docter has said, "As soon as Jordan's voice came on we started smiling because he is appealing and innocent and cute and different from what I was initially thinking." About four hundred children had shown up for the auditions, but Nagai stood out because he wouldn't stop talking the whole time. Nevertheless, he was sometimes very shy, and Docter found it difficult getting him to recite all of his lines. Nagai's character in ''Up'' is the first Asian American figure in a movie by Pixar. An airship or dirigible balloon is a type of aerostat or lighter-than-air aircraft that can navigate through the air under its own power.
