Duel (ride)
The Haunted House (known from 2003-2022 as Duel - The Haunted House Strikes Back!) was a dark ride at the Alton Towers theme park near the village of Alton in Staffordshire, opening in 1992. In 2003 it received a new overlay as ''Duel'' with the addition of interactive shooting. There was a minimum height restriction of 1.1 metres for younger riders unless accompanied by an adult. The ride closed in 2022 to reopen as ''The Curse at Alton Manor''. History The Haunted House was designed by The Sparks Group and John Wardley and was the largest haunted attraction in Europe at the time of opening. Alton Towers Resort
Alton Towers Resort ( ) (often referred to as Alton Towers) is a theme park and resort complex in Staffordshire, England, near the village of Alton. The park is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group and incorporates a theme park, water park, spa, mini golf and hotel complex. Originally a private estate of the Earls of Shrewsbury, Alton Towers' grounds were opened to the public in 1860 to raise funds. In the late 20th century, it was transformed into a theme park and opened a number of new rides from 1980 onwards. Animatronics refers to mechatronic puppets. They are a modern variant of the automaton and are often used for the portrayal of characters in films and in theme park attractions. It is a multidisciplinary field integrating puppetry, anatomy and mechatronics. Animatronic figures can be implemented with both computer and human control, including teleoperation. A dark ride or ghost train is an indoor amusement ride on which passengers aboard guided vehicles travel through specially lit scenes that typically contain animation, sound, music and special effects. Pepper's Ghost
Pepper's ghost is an illusion technique used in the theatre, cinema, amusement parks, museums, television, and concerts. It is named after the English scientist John Henry Pepper (1821–1900) who began popularising the effect with a theatre demonstration in 1862. This launched an international vogue for ghost-themed plays, which used this novel stage effect, during the 1860s and subsequent decades. The illusion is widely used for entertainment and publicity purposes. David Buckley (born 7 June 1976) is a British composer of film and television scores, based in Santa Monica, California.
