Duck Creek, Garland, Texas
Duck Creek is an area in Garland, Texas, Garland, Texas, United States that once consisted of two distinct unincorporated areas, unincorporated communities (sometimes referred to as Old Duck Creek and New Duck Creek) in northeastern Dallas County, Texas, Dallas County. The community began using one- and later two-room log cabins as schools in 1852, with the first multi-grade school, Duck Creek Academy, established in the 1880s. It moved into a permanent red schoolhouse in 1899, and it was later renamed Duck Creek High School. In 1936 Central High School opened; its building was destroyed in 1946 by a fire. Garland is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located northeast of Dallas and is a part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It is located within Dallas County except for small portions located in Collin and Rockwall Counties. At the 2010 census, the city had a population of 226,876. In 2019, the population rose to 239,928, making it the 93rd-most populous city in the United States of America and the 12th-most populous city in Texas; by 2020, it had a population of 246,018. Garland is the third largest city in Dallas County by population and has access to downtown Dallas via public transportation including two Dart Blue Line stations and buses. The Trinity River is a river, the longest with a watershed entirely within the U.S. state of Texas. It rises in extreme northern Texas, a few miles south of the Red River. The headwaters are separated by the high bluffs on the southern side of the Red River. Indigenous peoples call the northern sections ''Arkikosa'' and the parts closer to the coast ''Daycoa''.
