Joséphine of Leuchtenberg (Joséphine Maximilienne Eugénie Napoléone de Beauharnais; 14 March 1807 – 7 June 1876) was Queen of Sweden and Norway from 8 March 1844 to 8 July 1859 as the wife of King Oscar I. She was also Princess of Bologna from birth and Duchess of Galliera from 1813. She was regarded as politically active during the reign of her spouse and acted as his political adviser, actively participating in government affairs. She is acknowledged as having introduced more liberal laws regarding religion. Early life Joséphine was born on 14 March 1807 in Milan, Italy. She was the first of six children of Eugène de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg (1781–1824), and his wife, Princess Augusta of Bavaria (1788–1851). He became the 7th Duke of Galliera in 1997. Life and career He was born at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, as the elder son of ''Don'' Alonso de Orleans-Borbón y Parodi-Delfino (elder son of Prince Álvaro, Duke of Galliera, and Carla Parodi-Delfino) and ''Donna'' Emilia Ferrara-Pignatelli (daughter of Vincenzo Ferrara-Pignatelli, Prince of Strongoli, and Francesca Pulci-Doria). Since his father died when he was seven, Alfonso inherited the title of Duke of Galliera from his grandfather, the 6th Duke of Galliera. Alfonso de Orleans y Borbón, Infante of Spain, Duke of Galliera (12 November 1886 – 6 August 1975), was a Spanish prince, military aviator and first cousin of Alfonso XIII of Spain. Early life Alfonso was born in Madrid, Spain, the elder son of Infante Antonio, Duke of Galliera and his wife, Infanta Eulalia of Spain. On his paternal side he was a grandson of Antoine, Duke of Montpensier, while on his maternal side he was a grandson of Queen Isabella II of Spain. On 30 November 1886, in the Royal Palace of Madrid, he was baptised with the names ''Alfonso María Francisco Antonio Diego''.
