Dublin–Navan Railway Line
The Dublin-Navan line (via Clonsilla) is a partially-open commuter rail line between Dublin and the town of Navan in County Meath. Since September 2010, train services operate from Docklands Station to M3 Parkway, with an extension to Navan itself proposed. History Background Navan was originally a significant part of the expanding rail network in Ireland. The Dublin and Drogheda Railway first constructed a branch from the Dublin-Belfast main line through Navan to the town of Oldcastle which opened in 1850. In 1862, the Dublin and Meath Railway constructed and operated a branch from Clonsilla to Navan off the MGWR main line to Sligo. This line was extended to Kingscourt in County Cavan in 1865, operated by the Navan and Kingscourt Railway. Both of these lines were eventually purchased by the MGWR, while the Oldcastle line was eventually incorporated into the GNR(I). Drogheda ( , ; , meaning "bridge at the ford") is an industrial and port town in County Louth on the east coast of Ireland, north of Dublin. Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with the chemical formula . It is widely mined and is used as a fertilizer and as the main constituent in many forms of plaster, blackboard or sidewalk chalk, and drywall. Navan Junction Railway Station
Navan Junction was a railway station serving the town of Navan in County Meath. As the name suggests, the station was located at the junction of two railway lines. The first was a branch line off the main line between Belfast and Dublin, which connected Drogheda and Oldcastle, and opened in 1850. The second, which opened in 1862, was also a branch line, this time off the line from Dublin to Sligo, connecting Clonsilla and Navan. This line was later extended as far as Kingscourt in 1865. Although Navan had two railway stations, Navan Junction was the main one serving the town, with a total of four platforms serving the two routes. Navan railway station is a former train station which served the town of Navan in County Meath, Ireland. History The station served the centre of the town, and was on the branch line between and Oldcastle, which was opened by the Dublin and Drogheda Railway in 1850 and became part of the Great Northern Railway in 1876. The station was one of two serving the town, the other being , which served as the main station and was on two separate routes. Navan station was much smaller, with a single bi-directional platform serving the single track. Navan station, along with the branch line, was closed in 1958 to passenger services. Great Northern Railway (Ireland)
The Great Northern Railway (Ireland) (GNR(I) or GNRI) was an Irish gauge () railway company in Ireland. It was formed in 1876 by a merger of the Irish North Western Railway (INW), Northern Railway of Ireland, and Ulster Railway. The governments of Ireland and Northern Ireland jointly nationalised the company in 1953, and the company was liquidated in 1958: assets were split on national lines between the Ulster Transport Authority and Córas Iompair Éireann. Navan And Kingscourt Railway
The Midland Great Western Railway (MGWR) was the third largest Irish gauge () railway company in Ireland. It was incorporated in 1845 and absorbed into the Great Southern Railways in 1924. At its peak the MGWR had a network of , making it Ireland's third largest network after the Great Southern and Western Railway (GS&WR) and the Great Northern Railway of Ireland. Kingscourt Railway Station
Kingscourt railway station is a former passenger and freight station in Kingscourt, County Cavan, Ireland. The station was built in 1875 by the independent Navan and Kingscourt Railway, as the terminus of its line from . In 1888, the company was purchased by the Midland Great Western Railway. The MGWR envisaged extending the line from Kingscourt to via , , and , but this never materialised.
