Dublin Link
The Dublin Link is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Scioto River in Dublin, Ohio. The bridge is the only single-tower S-shaped suspension bridge in the world. The bridge connects Dublin's historic district and downtown on the west bank with the Bridge Street District partially complete, on the east bank. The bridge was originally proposed in 1986, and re-proposed in 2007. After planning, studies, and design efforts, construction began in 2017. The bridge was completed and opened on 17 March 2020, with a planned ceremony on March 13, cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Scioto River
The Scioto River ( ) is a river in central and southern Ohio more than in length. It rises in Hardin County just north of Roundhead, Ohio, flows through Columbus, Ohio, where it collects its largest tributary, the Olentangy River, and meets the Ohio River at Portsmouth. Early settlers and Native Americans used the river for shipping,"Scioto River – Ohio History Central" but it is now too small for modern commercial craft. The primary economic importance for the river now is for recreation and drinking water. It is the longest river that is entirely within Ohio. S Bridge
An S bridge is a bridge whose alignment follows a reverse curve, shaped roughly like a shallow letter S in plan, used in early 19th-century road construction in the United States. They were generally used for crossing small, curving streams with uneven banks. Several of these bridges are found in and around the New Concord, Ohio area. S bridges were originally constructed early in the 19th century. The design was adopted where the road crossed the creek or river at an angle. Constructing a bridge at an angle was much more complicated and expensive than building the bridge perpendicular to the water flow and banks. The bridges were constructed at 90 degrees to the bank, while two 'aprons' were constructed at opposite angles to direct the traffic flow smoothly onto the bridge, thus creating the 's' shape.
