Dublin Blues Rugby League
The Dublin Blues are an Irish rugby league team from Dublin, Ireland. The Blues will play in the 2021 Euro XIII's cup competition. History The Dublin Blues are Ireland's first ever rugby league club having been founded in 1989 by Brian Corrigan following a meeting with a delegation from the Rugby Football League which took place in 1988. Initially the club played touring teams from the United Kingdom as there were no other teams in Ireland for a number of years. However, in 1995 the RFL financed a development programme in Ireland which would lead to the first domestic competition in 1997. The Blues would become the inaugural champions of Ireland beating Tallaght Tigers in the 1997 Grand Final. They would go on to compete in the next two grand finals winning one and losing one. ''Dublin Blues'' is an album by the American singer-songwriter Guy Clark, released in 1995. Clark promoted the album by touring with son, Travis, as his bass player. It has recently been remastered (2023) and an extra track has been discovered. It will hopefully be released soon. Production Rodney Crowell cowrote "Stuff That Works". Brian Carney (rugby)
Brian Carney (born 23 July 1976) is an Irish professional rugby league commentator and former dual-code rugby international player. He most recently played rugby league for Warrington Wolves, but he also played for Gateshead Thunder, Hull F.C. and Wigan Warriors in the Super League, as well as Newcastle Knights in the NRL. Carney crossed codes to play rugby union for Munster between 2007 and 2009. He earned caps for international representation, for Ireland in both rugby league and rugby union, and also Great Britain and Ireland in rugby league. He also played Gaelic football as a junior. Carney is one of the presenters for Sky's coverage of Gaelic games which started in June 2014. Early life Carney played Gaelic football for Valleymount GAA in west county Wicklow and won a junior championship medal in 1998 with the club. The All-Ireland Rugby League Championship (now the McGettigans All-Ireland League for sponsorship reasons) was first played for in 1997 under the title All-Ireland Challenge Cup. Since then it has also been known as the All-Ireland League, Elite League and the All-Ireland Championship. RFL League One (for sponsorship reasons currently known as the Betfred League One) is a professional rugby league competition based in the United Kingdom. Part of the British rugby league pyramid, the competition features clubs from England and Wales, and has previously included clubs from Canada and France. It is the Rugby Football League's (RFL) third-tier competition, below the Championship, with which it has promotion and relegation. The league was inaugurated in 2003 when the Northern Ford Premiership was divided into two separate leagues, initially named National League One and National League Two. The Wigan Warriors are a professional rugby league club in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England, which competes in the Super League. Morton Stadium, or the National Athletics Stadium, is an athletics stadium in Santry Demesne, Santry in Ireland. Often called Santry Stadium, it is the centre for athletics events in Dublin city and the home track of Clonliffe Harriers.
