Legend Of The White Snake
The Legend of the White Snake is a Chinese legend. It has since been presented in a number of major Chinese operas, films, and television series. The earliest attempt to fictionalize the story in printed form appears to be ''The White Maiden Locked for Eternity in the Leifeng Pagoda'' () in Feng Menglong's '' Stories to Caution the World'', which was written during the Ming dynasty. The legend is now counted as one of China's Four Great Folktales, the others being ''Lady Meng Jiang'', ''Butterfly Lovers'', and ''The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl''. Basic story Lü Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals, disguises himself as a '' tangyuan'' vendor at the Broken Bridge near the West Lake in Hangzhou. A boy called Xu Xian () buys some ''tangyuan'' from Lü Dongbin without knowing that they are actually immortality pills. After eating them, he does not feel hungry for the next three days so he goes back to ask the vendor why. Lü Dongbin laughs and carries Xu Xian to the bridge, wher ...

Yalu River Broken Bridge
The Yalu River Broken Bridge () is a truncated railway swing bridge converted to a viewing platform and historical site. Constructed in 1911 by the Empire of Japan, it was the first bridge built across the Yalu River and connected the Chinese city of Dandong with the Korean city of Sinuiju, linking Japanese-ruled Korea to the Eurasian rail network. The bridge originally consisted of twelve truss spans supported by stone foundations in the riverbed. During the Korean War, the eight spans over the Korean side of the river were badly damaged by American bombing, and were subsequently dismantled. The bridge was not rebuilt. Instead, the remaining four spans over the Chinese side of the river were converted to a walkway, a viewing platform, and a historical site. Location and dimension The railway bridge is located in Dandong, Liaoning, China, across the Yalu River from Sinuiji, North Korea. It was a steel truss bridge long and wide, with 12 spans. Its fourth span was a swing b ...

Longteng Bridge
The Longteng Bridge (), officially known as the Yutengping Bridge (), is a former bridge in Longteng Village, Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan. History The bridge was built in 1906 during Japanese rule, and was named . It was designed by the American civil engineers Theodore Cooper and C.C. Schneider for the colonial government. Both the bridge and nearby village (modern-day ''Longteng'') were named after a local plant ''Millettia pachycarpa'' () believed to be poisonous to fish; legends believed that a malevolent carp in a nearby lake was responsible for misfortune, and residents planted the shrub to counter the carp. The original design consists of a central steel truss flanked by multiple brick masonry arch approaches. The April 1935 Shinchiku-Taichū earthquake and subsequent aftershocks in July damaged the bridge beyond repair. Several masonry arches were cracked and the north and south ends of the truss became misaligned. A new iron bridge was built in 1938, ...

Broken Bridge (Hangzhou)
Broken Bridge () is a bridge near the West Lake in Hangzhou, China. It is a small, three-span, semicircular stone arch. The current bridge was built in 1922 but its history dates from the Tang dynasty. It was known as Baoyou Bridge () during the Song dynasty and Duanjia Bridge () during the Yuan dynasty. The bridge is not broken. It is so named because on certain winter days the bridge appears broken when viewed from afar, when the snow on the south side of the bridge melts under the sun but the north side is still covered in snow. Broken Bridge is popular with tourists due to its connection with the Legend of the White Snake. References Tourist attractions in Hangzhou Bridges in Zhejiang {{bridge-stub ...
