Sampha Lahai Sisay (born 16 November 1988) is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer from Morden, South London. Sampha is widely known for his collaborative work with Kendrick Lamar, SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Drake, Kanye West, Solange and others. Sampha has released two solo EPs: ''Sundanza'' (2010) and '' Dual'' (2013). Sampha's debut album, ''Process'', was released on 3 February 2017 by Young and won the 2017 Mercury Prize. Early years Sampha was born in Morden, South London to Sierra Leonean parents who moved to the United Kingdom in the 1980s. His introduction to music began with learning to play on the piano at his parents' home in Morden and absorbing as it were records given to him by his older siblings. Young Turks (record Label)
Young (formerly known as Young Turks) is a British independent record label that sits in the Beggars Group of labels launched by Caius Pawson in 2006. It has grown from an imprint of XL Recordings into a successful and influential label now partnered with XL and operates across a range of genres. The label's current roster includes The xx, FKA twigs, Sampha, Jamie xx, Koreless and Kamasi Washington. History In 2004, Caius Pawson supplied DJs and sound equipment for a series of all-night dance parties he called Young Turks. He enjoyed growing celebrity, until the police raided one of his parties and seized his gear. Pawson, then nineteen, took a job in A&R at XL Recordings, and quickly established his own small label within the company in 2006, also called Young Turks with Katie O'Neill and Tic. ''Process'' is the debut studio album by English singer Sampha, released on 3 February 2017 by Young Turks. The album was co-produced by Sampha and Scottish music producer Rodaidh McDonald. It won the Mercury Prize for 2017. Recording As compared to Sampha's characteristic bedroom recording style, ''Process'' was recorded in professional recording studios. The album was primarily recorded in studios across Sampha's native city of London, although it was also partially recorded at Ocean Sound Recordings on the Norwegian island Giske (island), Giske. Release and promotion "Timmy's Prayer" was released on 17 May 2016 as a single. The album's title was revealed alongside the release of "Blood on Me" on 26 August 2016 as ''Process lead single. Morden
Morden is a district and town in south London, England, within the London Borough of Merton, in the ceremonial county of Greater London. It adjoins Merton Park and Wimbledon to the north, Mitcham to the east, Sutton to the south and Worcester Park to the west, and is around south-southwest of Charing Cross.
