''Drums of Tahiti'' is a 1954 American South Seas (genre), south seas adventure film directed by William Castle and starring Dennis O'Keefe, Patricia Medina and Francis L. Sullivan. ''Drums of Tahiti'' was released in 3D film, 3-D, and was one of three 3-D movies made by director William Castle. The film's sets were designed by the art director Paul Palmentola. Plot In 1877, Tahitians under the rule of aging Queen Pōmare IV, Pomare (Frances Brandt) dislike their position as a French protectorate and quietly plan a new war with assistance from Britain. William Castle
William Castle (born William Schloss Jr.; April 24, 1914 – May 31, 1977) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Orphaned at 11, Castle dropped out of high school at 15 to work in the theater. He came to the attention of Columbia Pictures for his talent for promotion and was hired. He learned the trade of filmmaking and became a director, acquiring a reputation for the ability to churn out competent B-movies quickly and on budget. He eventually struck out on his own, producing and directing Thriller (genre), thrillers, which, despite their low budgets, he effectively promoted using film promotion, gimmicks, a trademark for which he is best known. Paul Palmentola
Paul Palmentola (1888–1966) was an Italian-born American art director.Stephens p.233 He designed the film sets for more than two hundred productions during his career, much of his work during the 1930s and 1940s at low-budget studios such as Mayfair Pictures, Monogram and PRC. He was later employed by Columbia Pictures in the early 1950s, working on their adventure films and with Sam Katzman's unit. Paul Newlan
Paul Emory Newlan (June 29, 1903 – November 23, 1973) was an American film and TV character actor from Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He was best known for his role as Captain Grey on the NBC police series ''M Squad'' and for his roles in films including ''The Americanization of Emily'' and ''The Slender Thread''. Career Early in his career, Newlan worked in Vaudeville, sometimes doing as many as 10 shows a day. Newlan appeared in dozens of films and TV shows between 1935 and 1971. Nelson Leigh (born Sydney Talbot Christie; January 1, 1905 – July 3, 1985) was an American motion picture actor of the 1940s and 1950s. Early years Born in Mississippi, Leigh was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Christie. He was a graduate of the University of Southern California, class of 1929.
