Drew McDowall
Drew McDowall (born 28 January 1961) is a Scottish musician who has been a member, collaborator, and remixer for various influential music groups. McDowall was formerly a full-time member of Coil. History McDowall formed art-punk trio Poems in 1978 with his then-wife, Rose McDowall. During the 1980s, McDowall was a member of Psychic TV. McDowall performed with Coil regularly for several years, becoming an official member in 1994. McDowall currently is a member of the groups CSD (formerly Captain Sons and Daughters) and Compound Eye (with Tres Warren of Psychic Ills). The notoriously reclusive musician, who resides in New York City, has done a number of public performances for the Modular Synthesizer Solstice and Equinox series in Brooklyn, beginning in 2012. In March 2014, McDowall provided the score to ''Are You Okay'', a short film written by Bret Easton Ellis for the "Are You Okay?" single by Dum Dum Girls. Coil (band)
Coil were an English experimental music group formed in 1982 in London and dissolved in 2005. Initially envisioned as a solo project by musician John Balance (of the band Psychic TV), Coil evolved into a full-time project with the addition of his partner and Psychic TV bandmate Peter Christopherson, formerly of pioneering industrial music group Throbbing Gristle. Coil's work explored themes related to the occult, sexuality, alchemy, and drugs while influencing genres such as gothic rock, neofolk and dark ambient. AllMusic called the group "one of the most beloved, mythologized groups to emerge from the British post-industrial music, post-industrial scene." A Thousand Lights In A Darkened Room
''A Thousand Lights in a Darkened Room'' is the only release by Black Light District, an alias for English experimental group Coil. The alias was one of a few assumed by them in the mid-nineties for releasing purely experimental music. Background "Unprepared Piano" is a reference to the prepared piano technique created by John Cage, of whom Coil are said to be fond. "Blue Rats" was later remixed and released on the compilation ''Foxtrot'', credited to Coil. An alternate version of "London's Lost Rivers" appears on ''Unnatural History III'' as "Lost Rivers of London". The vinyl version was limited to a pressing of 2,000 numbered copies. However, there are duplicate numbers and three colors: blue, white, and clear. The CD has a catalogue number of ESKATON 008 and the vinyl set has a catalogue number of Eskaton 009. John Balance
Geoffrey Nigel Laurence Rushton (16 February 1962 – 13 November 2004), better known under the pseudonyms John Balance or the later variation Jhonn Balance, was an English musician, occultist, artist and poet. He was best known as a co-founder of the experimental music group Coil, in collaboration with his partner Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson.. Coil was active from 1982 to Balance's death in 2004. He was responsible for the majority of Coil's vocals, lyrics and chants, along with synthesizers and various other instruments both commonplace and esoteric. Outside Coil he collaborated with Cultural Amnesia (at the beginning of the 1980s), Nurse with Wound, Death in June, Psychic TV, Current 93, Chris & Cosey, Thighpaulsandra, and produced several Nine Inch Nails remixes. Uniform (band)
Uniform is an American industrial metal band, formed in 2013 in New York by vocalist Michael Berdan and guitarist Ben Greenberg. The current line-up of the band features Mike Sharp on drums. History Greenberg previously played with The Men and Pygmy Shrews whereas Berdan sang for Drunkdriver and York Factory Complaint. The band came together after Greenberg and Berdan, who played in bands 3 years prior, started living on the same street. The duo recorded their eponymous 12" single, which was released in 2014. ''Perfect World'' is the debut studio album by the American industrial rock band Uniform. It was released on July 8, 2015 by 12XU and Alter Records. Produced by the band's guitarist and programmer Ben Greenberg, it features contributions from former Coil member Drew McDowall. ''Moon's Milk (In Four Phases)'' is a release by Coil that compiles four of their singles onto a double CD. The two disc album compiles the CD versions of '' Spring Equinox'', ''Summer Solstice'', ''Autumn Equinox'' and ''Winter Solstice'' (originally recorded throughout 1998, and released seasonally from March 1998 to January 1999). The album also has a live version of "Amethyst Deceivers" hidden at the end of the first disc, following several minutes of silence after "A Warning From The Sun (For Fritz)". This recording of "Amethyst Deceivers" was later released on '' Live Two'', although the Moon's Milk version is a slightly longer edit. Astral Disaster
''Astral Disaster'' is a studio album by Coil, originally released in January 1999 on Acme/Prescription, reissued in 2000 on Threshold House, and then reissued in 2017 through Acme/Prescription. The original pressing of the album was released in an edition of 99 copies on 12" vinyl via the record label Acme/Prescription with catalogue number Drug 8, was available only to those who had subscribed to the entire Drug series, and was packaged in a plain black sleeve with a title sticker signed and numbered by John Balance and Peter Christopherson. It included an insert with the track listing and release notes, and a piece of handmade artwork in a plastic zip-lock bag. The later pressing of this album, released on CD and 12" via the Threshold House label, is completely rebuilt and remade with much more texture than the first release.
