Drew Ketterer
Andrew 'Drew' Ketterer (born January 17, 1949) is an American lawyer and politician from Maine. Ketterer, a Democrat, serve two terms (1990-1994) in the Maine House of Representatives from Norridgewock, Maine. After not seeking a third term in 1994, Ketterer was elected by the Democratic majority of the Maine Legislature to be Maine Attorney General. He served three terms (1995-2001) as Attorney General. While in office, he made civil rights enforcement a priority of his office as well as fighting fraud and elder abuse. He was replaced by Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives G. Steven Rowe. In July 2000, Ketterer was elected president of the National Association of Attorneys General. Maine Attorney General
The Maine Attorney General is the chief legal advisor and prosecutor of the State of Maine. The constitutional basis of the office is Article IX, Section 11 of the Maine Constitution, and the holder of the position is chosen biennially by the Maine Legislature in joint session. Maine is the only state to select its attorney general in such a manner. The powers of the Attorney General are derived from the Maine Revised Statues Annotated, Title 5, Chapter 9. These include representing the State in civil actions, investigating and prosecuting homicides, advising district attorneys, and providing written opinions on matters of law at the request of the Governor or the Legislature. The Attorney General is empowered to appoint deputy and assistant attorneys general, who serve at the Attorney General's pleasure. Maine Legislature
The Maine Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. It is a bicameral body composed of the lower house Maine House of Representatives and the upper house Maine Senate. The Legislature convenes at the State House in Augusta, where it has met since 1832. The House of Representatives consists of 151 members, each chosen from single-member constituencies. The House is uniquely the only state legislative body in the U.S. to set aside special seats for Native Americans, where there are three nonvoting Representatives from the Penobscot Nation, the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and the Houlton Band of Maliseets. Angus Stanley King Jr. (born March 31, 1944) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Maine since 2013. A political independent since 1993, he previously served as the 72nd governor of Maine from 1995 to 2003. King won Maine's 2012 Senate election to replace the retiring Republican Olympia Snowe and took office on January 3, 2013. Norridgewock, Maine
Norridgewock is a town in Somerset County, Maine, United States. The population was 3,278 at the 2020 census. History Native Americans Situated on the New England and Acadia border, which New France defined as the Kennebec River, the area was once territory of the Norridgewock Indians, a band of the Abenaki nation. Their village was located at Old Point, now part of Madison. English colonists suspected Father Sebastien Rale (or Rasle), the French missionary at the village since 1694, of abetting tribal hostilities against British settlements during the French and Indian Wars. During Father Rale's War, soldiers left Fort Richmond (now Richmond) in whaleboats until they reached Taconic Falls (now Winslow), then marched quietly to Norridgewock Village, arriving on August 23, 1724.
