Dreher Island State Park
Dreher Island State Park is in central South Carolina roughly 30 miles (48 km) from the state's capital of Columbia. It occupies all of the largest island in Lake Murray, a reservoir of the Saluda River. The park offers boating, hiking, camping, fishing for largemouth bass and other fish, picnic areas and spaces for large group meetings. The park also contains several lodging options, including villas and cabins It was first leased from SCE&G (now SCANA) in 1970, who built the Dreher Shoals Dam, creating Lake Murray. Today it is a largely heavily wooded island with the only access being a bridge on its Northern side. The park is named after the former owner of island, Billy Dreher. List Of South Carolina State Parks
The State of South Carolina has a group of protected areas managed by the South Carolina State Park Service (often abbreviated to Park Service). Formed in 1933 in conjunction with the formalization of the federal Civilian Conservation Corps program, the State Park Service is administered by the state's Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT). There are a total of 47 facilities that the State Park Service administers, protecting nearly 80,000 acres of sensitive, attractive, and/or historically significant lands in South Carolina. Chapin, South Carolina
Chapin, popularly known as the "Capital of Lake Murray", is a small lake town located at the northern tip of Lexington County, South Carolina, United States. Lake Murray separates Chapin from the rest of Lexington County. The population of Chapin was 1,445 according to the 2010 census, and an estimated 1,633 in 2019. Lake Murray (South Carolina)
Lake Murray is a reservoir in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It is approximately in size, and has roughly of shoreline. It was impounded in the late 1920s to provide hydroelectric power to the state of South Carolina. Lake Murray is fed by the Saluda River, which flows from upstate South Carolina near the North Carolina state line. The Saluda Dam (officially the ''Dreher Shoals Dam'') was an engineering feat at the time of its construction. SCANA Corporation was a regulated electric and natural gas public utility. The company was based in Cayce, South Carolina, a suburb of Columbia, South Carolina.
