"Dreamline" is a song by the Canadian rock band Rush. It was released as a single and on their 1991 album ''Roll the Bones''. The song peaked at number one on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and was a staple for live performances by Rush, having been performed on every tour from the inaugural Roll the Bones Tour until the 2010 and 2011 Time Machine Tour, when it was dropped. It was performed during the subsequent Clockwork Angels Tour, where it was accompanied by the Clockwork Angels string ensemble and a video with a dedication to Neil Armstrong. It was dropped again on the 2015 R40 Tour. In live performances, the bridge was extended to incorporate a solo by Alex Lifeson. ''Roll the Bones'' is the fourteenth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released September 3, 1991 on Anthem Records. The band began working on ''Roll the Bones'' after a brief creative hiatus following the tour promoting their previous release, '' Presto''. ''Roll the Bones'' was a return to commercial success for the band, reaching No. 3 in the United States, No. 10 in the UK, and No. 11 in Canada. The album won a Juno Award for Best Album Design at the 1992 awards. In August 2001, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling one million copies in the US. When the 1990s began, ''Billboard'' magazine published two rock charts, Album Rock Tracks and Modern Rock Tracks, and the two formats played a decidedly different set of artists with a few exceptions. Crossover between the two began to increase, however, with the rise and emergence of alternative rock such as grunge and a heavier sound that appealed to both genres. Mainstays on the Album Rock chart, such as Def Leppard, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Van Halen were being mixed in with alternative bands such as Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Stone Temple Pilots, to name a few, by the middle part of the decade. The bulk of the first and second discs were recorded at the World Music Theatre in Tinley Park, Illinois during the 1997 ''Test for Echo'' tour. Five other songs from various stops along the tour were included and three songs from the 1994 ''Counterparts'' tour. The third disc is taken from a performance at the Hammersmith Odeon in London during the ''A Farewell to Kings'' tour in 1978. The album was compiled and released by lead singer and bassist Geddy Lee and producer Paul Northfield in the wake of the deaths of drummer Neil Peart's daughter and first wife in 1997 and 1998, respectively.
