Pink Martini
Pink Martini is an American band that was founded in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale in Portland, Oregon. Group members call it a little orchestra that crosses several styles, such as classical, latin, traditional pop, and jazz. The co-lead vocalists of Pink Martini are China Forbes and Storm Large. History Thomas Lauderdale has worked in politics since his years in high school in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. He considered the music at most fundraisers loud and boring. So as a remedy he founded the band Pink Martini in 1994, crossing genres such as classical, latin, traditional pop, and jazz to appeal to a broad audience. During the following year, he called China Forbes, one of his colleagues from Harvard University, and invited her to join the band. Their first single, ''Sympathique'', was released in 1997 and was nominated as "Song of the Year" at the "Victoires de la Musique Awards" in France. Forbes is monolingual but sings in 15 languages. "All of us in Pink Mart ...

Collaborative Albums
Collaboration (from Latin ''com-'' "with" + ''laborare'' "to labor", "to work") is the process of two or more people, entities or organizations working together to complete a task or achieve a goal. Collaboration is similar to cooperation. Most collaboration requires leadership, although the form of leadership can be social within a decentralized and egalitarian group.Spence, Muneera U. Edelweiss (song)
"Edelweiss" is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ''The Sound of Music''. It is named after the edelweiss, ''(Leontopodium nivale)'', a white flower found high in the Alps. The song was created for the 1959 Broadway production of ''The Sound of Music'', as a song for the character Captain Georg von Trapp. In the musical, Captain von Trapp and his family sing this song during the concert near the end of Act II. It is a statement of Austrian patriotism in the face of the pressure put upon him to join the navy of Nazi Germany following the ''Anschluss'' (Nazi annexation of their homeland). It is also Captain von Trapp's subliminal goodbye to his beloved homeland, using the flower as a symbol of his loyalty to Austria. In the 1965 film adaptation, the song is also sung by the Captain earlier in the film when he rediscovers music with his children. This was the final song of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical collaboration as well as the last song written by Os ...

The Lonely Goatherd
"The Lonely Goatherd" is a popular show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ''The Sound of Music''. The song is well known for its examples of yodeling, a part of the traditional music of the Austrian Alps, where the musical is set (however, Maria von Trapp found the yodeling in the motion picture version of ''The Sound of Music'' rendition to be lacking in authenticity). Background This song tells the whimsical story of a goatherd whose yodelling is heard from far off and by passers-by, until he falls in love with a girl who wears a pale-pink coat, with her mother joining in the yodelling. The original 1959 musical has this as the song Maria (played by Mary Martin) sings to comfort the Von Trapp children during a storm. For the 1965 film adaptation, screenwriter Ernest Lehman repositioned this song to a later part of the film wherein Maria (played by Julie Andrews) and the children sing it as part of a marionette show they perform for their father. The song ...

Kuroneko No Tango
"Kuroneko no Tango" ( ja, 黒ネコのタンゴ "Black Cat Tango"; originally it, Volevo un gatto nero "I wanted a black cat") is a tango song recorded in 1969 by young children in Italy and Japan. The original Italian version came last in the Zecchino d'Oro competition on 11 March 1969. It was written by "Framario" (Francesco and Mario Pagano), Armando Soricillo, and Francesco Saverio Maresca, and was sung by four-year-old Vincenza Pastorelli. In 2007, Pastorelli was arrested after an anti-prostitution operation dubbed "Gatto Nero" by Carabinieri; her appeal against a three-year prison sentence was pending in the Court of Cassation in October 2011. Nippon Victor asked the leader of a Japanese school choir called "The Larks" to nominate a member to record a Japanese-language version of the song. She chose her nephew, Osamu Minagawa 皆川 おさむ (born 22 January 1963), whose recording was released on 5 October 1969. The song reached number one in the Oricon chart, and sold ...
