Drakeford Drive is an arterial road in the Tuggeranong district of the Australian Capital Territory, a southern suburb of the nation's capital Canberra. The road is named for Arthur Drakeford, Federal Minister for Air and Civil Aviation from 1941 to 1949. Tuggeranong Parkway
Tuggeranong Parkway is an major highway in Canberra, Australia. Often referred to as "The Parkway" by locals, Tuggeranong Parkway links Civic to the southern Canberra metro district of Tuggeranong, and is a bypass road to the Woden Valley-Weston Creek district of Canberra. It also links to the Glenloch Interchange, where roads such as Caswell Drive connect to Belconnen. Route description The Tuggeranong Parkway starts at Glenloch Interchange, continuing southwest from the roadway that forms Caswell Drive. Kambah () (postcode 2902) is the northernmost suburb in the district of Tuggeranong, Canberra. It is located just south of Mount Taylor in the Canberra Nature Park. It is located north of the suburbs of Greenway and Wanniassa. It is bounded by Sulwood Drive to the north and Athllon Drive to the south-east. Kambah was not designed according to the 'neighbourhood' philosophy guiding the design of other Canberra suburbs and is the largest suburb in Canberra with an area of 1130 ha. The suburb name was gazetted on 22 March 1973, and it was first settled in 1974 and consists predominantly of detached single-storey suburban houses. Arthur Drakeford
Arthur Samuel Drakeford (26 April 1878 – 9 June 1957) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1934 to 1955, representing the Labor Party. He served as Minister for Air and Minister for Civil Aviation from 1941 to 1949, and during World War II was the minister responsible for the Royal Australian Air Force. He was also responsible for the establishment of the domestic carrier Trans Australia Airlines and for the nationalisation of Qantas. Early life Drakeford was born in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy and his first job was cleaning railway engines at Benalla. In May 1902 he married Ellen Tyrie, but she died in 1906. In 1903 he became secretary of the Benalla branch of the Locomotive Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Association (LEDFA) and joined the Australian Labor Party. Lake Tuggeranong, an artificial lake sourced by the confluence of Tuggeranong Creek and stormwater discharge from urban and rural areas, is located in the Tuggeranong (district), Tuggeranong district of Canberra, within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
