Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, formerly Ranchi College, is a state university located in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It is named after the Indian politician Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. It was established as a college in 1926 and upgraded to a university in 2017. History Ranchi College was established as a government intermediate college in 1926, and begun undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 1946. Following the Indian independence it operated as unit of Patna University. It became a unit of Ranchi University upon its creation in 1960 and became autonomous in 2009. In 2017 it was upgraded to a state university through the ''Jharkhand State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2017''. In India, state universities are run and funded by the state government of each of the states of India. Following the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950, education became a state responsibility. Following a constitutional change in 1976, it became a joint responsibility of the states and the central government. , the UGC lists 456 state universities. Ranchi University
Ranchi University is a public state university in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It was established in 1960 by an Act of the Bihar legislature. Ranchi University offers degrees in undergraduate, post-graduate, M.Phil. and doctorate programs. History Before the establishment of Ranchi University, all degree colleges of the present-day Jharkhand (except Santhal Parganas) were affiliated to the Patna University. Ranchi University was established on July 12, 1960, as a teaching cum affiliating university.
