Dr. Hudson's Secret Journal
''Dr. Hudson's Secret Journal'' is an American medical drama which aired in syndication from 1955 to 1957. It was based on a 1939 book of the same name by Lloyd C. Douglas, that was a prequel to his 1929 novel ''Magnificent Obsession''. A total of 78 episodes were produced. In 1955 a nationwide competition was held in ''TV Guide'' to find a young actor to play Dr. Hudson's protégé, Tim Watson, for several episodes. those entering had to submit a photo and recording in which they read emotional dialogue. The winner was a young actor named Joe Walker. John Howard (American Actor)
John Howard (born John Richard Cox Jr.; April 14, 1913 – February 19, 1995) was an American actor. He is best remembered for his roles in the films ''Lost Horizon'' (1937) and '' The Philadelphia Story'' (1940). Howard played Bulldog Drummond in seven films which were produced by Paramount. He also appeared in many television series and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Early life Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Howard was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of what now is Case Western Reserve University. Magnificent Obsession
''Magnificent Obsession'' is a 1929 novel by American author Lloyd C. Douglas. It was one of four of his books that were eventually made into blockbuster motion pictures, the other three being ''The Robe'', ''White Banners'' and ''The Big Fisherman''. Plot summary Robert Merrick is resuscitated by a rescue crew after a boating accident. The crew is thus unable to save the life of Dr. Hudson, a physician renowned for his ability to help people, who was having a heart attack at the same time on the other side of the lake. Merrick then decides to devote his life to making up for the doctor's, and becomes a physician himself. Mrs. Hudson, the widow, moves to Europe after her daughter Joyce is married. Merrick progresses in his career, and in the story's climax, gets involved in a railway accident in which Mrs. Hudson suffers serious injury.
