Downtown Lethbridge is the central business district of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, hosting most of the city's banks and several accounting and law practices, including national firms. Boundaries Strictly speaking, the downtown is defined by the Oldman River valley on the west, Crowsnest Trail and the CPR rail line on the north, Stafford Drive (9 Street) on the east and 6 Avenue on the south. Transportation Downtown Lethbridge serves as a transportation hub. Whoop-up Drive, the busiest roadway in Lethbridge, connects to downtown. Lethbridge ( ) is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. With a population of 101,482 in its 2019 Alberta municipal censuses, 2019 municipal census, Lethbridge became the fourth Alberta city to surpass 100,000 people. Lethbridge Transit
Lethbridge Transit manages and operates the municipally-owned public transportation system in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. History Public transit in Lethbridge began in 1912 and consisted of a streetcar system operated by the Lethbridge Municipal Railway. The system consisted of three lines, all originating at the southwest corner of what is now Galt Gardens. One line ran to north Lethbridge, one to the exhibition grounds via 6 Avenue, and the third to St. Michael's Hospital via 13 Street. Each car was operated by two men until 1917, when the number was reduced to a single operator on each. At the height of its operations, the streetcar system ran 10 cars over a total of 10 miles of track. Given the cost of laying new tracks to accommodate city growth, the city began introducing motor buses in 1941. London Road is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Lethbridge, Alberta. It is located in South Lethbridge and borders downtown, as well as Midtown and the Upper East Side. Oldman River Valley Parks System
The Oldman River valley parks system is a continuous collection of eight urban parks in the Oldman River valley of Lethbridge, Alberta, below the prairie level. The parks were created in the 1980s as part of the city's Urban Parks Project. Today they are a combined in size and comprise one of the largest urban park systems in North America, and the third largest in Canada. Park Place Mall
Park Place Mall or Park Place Shopping Centre, is a shopping mall located in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Built in 1988, the + mall covers four city blocks downtown and includes over 120 stores, including three anchor stores, Winners, Shoppers Drug Mart and Galaxy Cinemas. Former anchors include Eaton's and Sears Canada, with the latter closing with the chain's collapse in 2018. While the Eaton's space was redeveloped into other retailers (including Winners), as of early 2019, the former Sears location remains vacant. Melcor Centre (originally the Lethbridge Centre) is a professional centre in Downtown Lethbridge, in Alberta, Canada. Originally built as a retail mall, the centre consists of a two-storey complex that now houses primarily professional offices and a conference facility. Its anchor tenants are the city's branch of the Hudson's Bay department store chain—only large-scale retailer—and TD Canada Trust. It transitioned from a retail mall to a professional service centre over an 11-year period. Its current owner, Melcor Developments Ltd., purchased the property in 2007 and renamed it to Melcor Centre in 2018. The main retail level and office tower were built in 1975 by Poole Construction at a cost of $22 million, and the second retail level was built in 1988. The Lethbridge Public Library (or LPL, as it is commonly known) is a public library service that is provided by the municipality of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1919. Galt Museum & Archives is the primary museum in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and is the largest museum in the province south of Calgary. In 2006, the museum cared for a growing collection of over 20,000 artifacts and 300,000 archival documents and photographs record the history of Lethbridge and southern Alberta.
