Gordon Edgar Downie (February 6, 1964 – October 17, 2017) was a Canadian rock singer-songwriter, musician, writer and activist. He was the singer and lyricist for the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, which he fronted from its formation in 1984 until his death in 2017. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and popular artists in Canadian music history. Rebecca "Becky" Downie (born 24 January 1992 in Nottingham) is a British artistic gymnastics, artistic gymnast who competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 and 2016 Summer Olympics. Ellie Downie
Elissa Rebecca "Ellie" Downie (born 20 July 1999) is a retired artistic gymnast who has represented Great Britain. She is the all-around 2017 European gymnastics champion, the first gymnast to win a major all-around title for Great Britain. The younger sister of double European champion Becky Downie, Downie first came to prominence as an outstanding junior gymnast at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, winning four medals. At the age of 15, she became the first British woman to win an individual all-around medal at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, with a bronze in 2015. Roderick Gary Downie Pinkus (17 July 1940 – 19 January 2006) was a South African-born English production manager on many 1980s episodes of the long-running science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', and partner of its producer John Nathan-Turner. Johnny Downie
John Dennis Downie (19 July 1925 – 19 February 2013) was a Scottish footballer. He was born in Lanark,1925 Births in the District of Lanark in the County of Lanark page 35 no 104 and played as an inside forward. Downie played football as a member of the Lanark Air Training Corps, but joined Bradford Park Avenue as an amateur in August 1942. After spending time working in a colliery in Bradford, he turned professional in December 1944, and made his debut when football restarted after the Second World War. After 33 goals in 86 league appearances for Bradford Park Avenue, he joined Manchester United in March 1949 for a club record £18,000 as a replacement for the departing Johnny Morris. Downie scored 37 goals (including five in the FA Cup) in 116 appearances for the club, before leaving for Luton Town for £10,000 in 1953. Freda Downie (20 October 1929 – 4 May 1993) was an English poet. Downie was born in London, growing up in the outskirts of Shooters Hill. The family were evacuated to Northamptonshire at the start of World War II in September 1939. They returned to London during the Blitz, travelled by sea around Africa to Australia for her father's work in 1941–42. In 1944, the family returned across the Pacific to London at the time of V-1 and V-2 rockets. As an adult, Downie worked for music publishers and art agents. James Stewart Downie (19 July 1922 – 29 September 1995) was a New Zealand racing cyclist who represented his country at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland. Born on 19 July 1922, Downie married Merle Bishell in 1944. In the men's 100 km road race at the 1950 British Empire Games The 1950 British Empire Games was the fourth staging of what is now called the Commonwealth Games. It was held in Auckland, New Zealand between 4 and 11 February 1950, after a 12-year gap from the third edition of the games.
