Downeaster (train)
The ''Downeaster'' is a passenger train service operated by Amtrak and managed by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA), an agency of the state of Maine. Named for the Down East region of Maine, the train operates five daily round trips between North Station in Boston, Massachusetts, and Brunswick, Maine, with 10 intermediate stops. In 2018, the ''Downeaster'' carried 551,038 passengers and earned ticket revenue of $10.2 million. History Previous service The ''Downeaster'' follows the route historically used by the ''Pine Tree'' and ''Flying Yankee'' trains that traveled from Bangor to Boston and were operated jointly by the Boston & Maine Railroad and Maine Central Railroad. Ballardvale Station
Ballardvale station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station on the Haverhill Line, located in the Ballardvale village of Andover, Massachusetts. History The Andover and Haverhill Railroad opened through Ballardvale in 1836. In 1849, the Boston and Maine Railroad moved the line about west to its present alignment as part of a lengthy relocation to serve the growing mill city of Lawrence. The original depot was converted to a residence. A two-story Italianate depot was built in 1849 at the Andover Street crossing to serve as the new Ballardvale station. A baggage room was added around 1893. In 1950, it was cut in half, moved , and converted to a private residence. The baggage room was detached and served as the station shelter for some time. The Boston and Maine Railroad was a U.S. Class I railroad in northern New England. Originally chartered in 1835, it became part of what was the Pan Am Railways network in 1983 (most of which was purchased by CSX in 2022). Union Station (Portland, Maine)
Union Station was a train station in Portland, Maine. History The building was opened on June 25, 1888, serving trains of the Boston and Maine, Maine Central and Portland and Ogdensburg railroads. Designed by Boston architects Bradlee, Winslow & Wetherell, it was inspired by the designs of medieval French châteaux. It was a primarily granite building, with a clock tower. Despite its 'union station' name, the Grand Trunk Railway used a different station two miles away. The Maine Central ended passenger rail service to the station in September 1960, and it closed on October 30 when the Boston and Maine moved its remaining trains out of the facility. On August 31, 1961, the train station was demolished, and a strip mall built on the property. Portland Transportation Center
Portland Transportation Center is a bus and train station in Portland, Maine, United States, served and run primarily by Concord Coach Lines (18 round-trips a day) and Amtrak '' Downeaster'' passenger trains (five round-trips a day). It is also served by Megabus (via Concord Coach Lines), as well as the Greater Portland Metro Bus Route 1 BREEZ express bus service to Brunswick, Maine. The station is open from 4:30 AM to 12:15 AM and from 2:45 AM to 3:15 AM. Portland Transportation Center is located in Portland's Libbytown neighborhood, about a half mile west of the former site of Portland Union Station. Kennebunk Station
Kennebunk station is a former train station located off Depot Street in Kennebunk, Maine. The station opened in 1873 and closed in 1965; it is now occupied by a private business. Planning began in 2014 to add Kennebunk as a stop on the Amtrak '' Downeaster'' route, but the town cancelled the project in 2018. An electronic ticket is a method of ticket entry, processing, and marketing for companies in the airline, railways and other transport and entertainment industries. Airline ticket E-tickets in the airline industry were devised in about 1994, and have now largely replaced the older multi-layered paper ticketing systems. An elastic modulus (also known as modulus of elasticity) is the unit of measurement of an object's or substance's resistance to being deformed elastically (i.e., non-permanently) when a stress is applied to it.
