''Down to Earth'', also known as ''The Optimist'', is a 1917 American comedy romance film starring Douglas Fairbanks and Eileen Percy, and directed by John Emerson. Most of the principal photography was filmed in Yosemite National Park. Synopsis Bill Gaynor (Fairbanks) follows Ethel (Percy), the girl he loves, to a sanitarium she is staying to recuperate from a nervous break down. The yacht crashes onto an island, where Bill makes the invalids work for their own food and where they all overcome their illnesses. Two months later, Charles discovers that Palm Beach is actually in the valley below them, and he escapes the camp. ''Down to Earth'' is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, released on November 16, 1966 on the Tamla (Motown) label. The album was a departure from Wonder's earlier, teen pop-driven albums, and, along with its predecessor, ''Up-Tight'', it re-established the sixteen-year-old Wonder, whose voice had recently changed, as a Motown hitmaker. The album features the hit single " A Place in the Sun". Another single, " Hey Love", became a hit for Detroit soul singer Bettye LaVette the following year. Track listing Side One #" A Place in the Sun" ( Ron Miller, Bryan Wells) - 2:52 #"Bang Bang" (Sonny Bono) - 2:42 #"Down to Earth" (Miller, Avery Vanderberg) - 2:50 #"Thank You Love" (Henry Cosby, Sylvia Moy, Stevie Wonder) - 2:55 #"Be Cool, Be Calm (And Keep Yourself Together)" (Cosby, Moy, Wonder) - 2:43 #"Sylvia" (Cosby, Moy, Wonder) - 2:34 Side Two #"My World Is Empty Without You" ( Holland-Dozier-Holland) - 2:53 #"The Lonesome Road" (Gene Austin, Nat ...

Down To Earth (Freddie Roach Album)

accessed November 2, 2010

Reception

The review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine awarded the album 4½ stars and stated "Freddie Roach differentiated himself from the legions of soul-jazz organists on his debut album, ''Down to Earth''. Many jazz organists played the instrument down and dirty, and while there's funk in Roach's playing, his style is ultimately lighter than many of his peers, with clean, concise solos and chords... the signature of ''Down to Earth'' is Roach's tasteful bluesy ...

Down To Earth (Rainbow Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the fourth studio album by the British hard rock band Rainbow. It is their last album to feature drummer Cozy Powell and their only album with vocalist Graham Bonnet. Released in 1979, it contains Rainbow's first hit single "Since You Been Gone", marking a more commercial direction of the band's sound. Writing and recording The writing of ''Down to Earth'' began at Ritchie Blackmore's house in Connecticut in December 1978. By that time, he had dismissed both bassist Bob Daisley and keyboard player David Stone soon after singer Ronnie James Dio quit the band. Blackmore had already recruited his old Deep Purple bandmate Roger Glover as producer and started auditioning musicians for the vacant slots in the band, while songwriting progressed with Blackmore, Cozy Powell and session musician Clive Chaman on bass. The backing tracks were largely written by Blackmore and Glover. "It was a great opportunity for me, and why should I bear a grudge '' bout being dismis ...

''Down to Earth'' is the eighth studio album by British heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. Released on 16 October 2001, it reached number 19 on the UK Albums Chart and number four on the US ''Billboard'' 200. "The Ozzfest was doing well", Osbourne explained. "I just wanted to be like the Grateful Dead and keep it going by touring, but the record company said they'd like a new Ozzy album." ''Down to Earth'' spawned just two singles, although both reached the top ten of the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and reached number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. Excluding his contributions to re-recordings of Ozzy's earlier material, ''Down to Earth'' is the only Osbourne studio album to feature bassist Robert Trujillo, who left to join Metallica in 2003. It was the first Osbourne album to feature drummer Mike Bordin, previously of Faith No More, though he had played live with Osbourne since 1996, as well as the last to feature guitarist Zakk Wylde until 2007's '' Black Rain''. ''Down to Earth'' is the debut album by Monie Love, which was released on 30 October 1990, on Warner Bros. Records. It peaked at 109 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and at 26 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and spawned three charting singles. "It's a Shame (My Sister)" became Monie's only top-40 hit in the U.S., and peaked at 26 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, while "Monie in the Middle" and "Down 2 Earth" were both successful on the R&B and hip hop charts. Critical reception In a contemporary review for ''The Village Voice'', music critic Robert Christgau gave ''Down to Earth'' an "A−" and was impressed by Love's proud sensibilities, as she "radiates sisterhood even though she concentrates on the guys, and positivity and tradition" without much culturally or politically conscious lyrics. Alex Henderson was less enthusiastic in a retrospective review for AllMusic, in which he gave the album three-and-a-half out of five stars and wrote that Love raps well, but lacks worthwhile stories o ...

Down To Earth (Jimmy Buffett Album)
''Down to Earth'' is the debut studio album by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was produced by Travis Turk and was released on August 11, 1970 on Andy Williams's Barnaby Records label as Z 30093. A compact disc was released by Varèse Sarabande in June 1998. Songs All of the songs on ''Down to Earth'' were written or co-written by Buffett. "The Captain and the Kid" was re-recorded thrice by Buffett: '' Havaña Daydreamin''', '' Meet Me in Margaritaville: The Ultimate Collection'' and ''Songs You Don't Know by Heart''. The folk-rock style of music and lyrics on ''Down to Earth'' and ''High Cumberland Jubilee'' differ greatly from Buffett's subsequent output. There is less of the country music feel and little of the gulf and western, Key-West-influenced sound and themes that have defined his musical career. Allmusic reviewer William Ruhlmann notes that "this is not the freewheeling Jimmy Buffett of 'Margaritaville,' but rather a thoughtful folk-rock si ...
