Douglas Dickinson
Lieutenant-General Douglas Povah Dickinson CB DSO OBE MC (6 November 1886 – 8 January 1949) was a senior British Army officer who commanded the East Africa Force at the start of the Second World War. Military career After attending the Royal Military College at Sandhurst, Dickinson was commissioned into the Welch Regiment on 6 October 1906. He served in France and Belgium during the First World War. After attending the Staff College, Camberley from 1919 to 1920, he was appointed Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General there in 1925, Inspector of the Iraq Army in Kurdistan in 1930 and Inspector with British Military Mission attached to the Iraq Army in 1932. He went on to be Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion of The Welch Regiment in 1934, Commandant of the Nigeria Regiment in 1936 and Inspector-General of the African Colonial Forces early in 1939. First World War
World War I (28 July 1914 11 November 1918), often abbreviated as WWI, was one of the deadliest global conflicts in history. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred. General (United Kingdom), General Sir Alan Gordon Cunningham, (1 May 1887 – 30 January 1983) was a senior Officer (armed forces), officer of the British Army noted for his victories over Italian forces in the East African Campaign (World War II), East African Campaign during the Second World War. Later he served as the seventh and last High Commissioners for Palestine and Transjordan, High Commissioner of Palestine. He was the younger brother of Admiral of the Fleet Andrew Cunningham, 1st Viscount Cunningham of Hyndhope, Lord Cunningham of Hyndhope. Western Command was a command of the British Army. History Western Command was established in 1905 and was originally called the Welsh & Midland Command before changing its name in 1906. In 1907 Western Command relocated to Watergate House, Chester, Watergate House in Chester. The Nigeria Regiment, Royal West African Frontier Force, was formed by the amalgamation of the Northern Nigeria Regiment and the Southern Nigeria Regiment on 1 January 1914.
