Doug Murray (comics)
Douglas Murray is an American comic book writer and novelist. He served as a non-commissioned officer in the Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He worked as a writer for ''The Monster Times'' newspaper in the early 1970s, and later as a Marvel Comics writer from 1984 to 1991. He was the main writer on the popular 1980s comic book series ''The 'Nam'', published by Marvel. In the 1970s, Murray edited ''Heritage'', a 2-issue fanzine dedicated to ''Flash Gordon'', a ''Neal Adams Index'' (1974) and two separate ''ACBA Sketchbook'' publications (in 1973 and 1975 respectively). Born and raised in New York, Doug grew up on Long Island in Lindenhurst, New York. He was always a mega-collector of science fiction books, pulps, monster magazines and all sorts of movie memorabilia. The 'Nam
''The 'Nam'' was a war comic book series detailing the U.S. war in Vietnam from the perspective of active-duty soldiers involved in the conflict. It was written by Doug Murray, initially illustrated by Michael Golden, edited by Larry Hama and published by Marvel Comics for seven years beginning in 1986, which was originally intended to roughly parallel the analogous events of the period of major American military involvement in Vietnam from 1965 to 1973. Plot The comic is structured as the narrative of a fictional soldier, Private First Class Edward Marks (but sometimes following other characters), as he experiences real events that occurred during the conflict. Each issue of the comic occurs one month after the previous issue, detailing events that occurred approximately 20 years prior to the publication date. Russ Heath
Russell Heath Jr. (September 29, 1926 – August 23, 2018), was an American artist best known for his comic book work, particularly his DC Comics war stories and his 1960s art for ''Playboy'' magazine's "Little Annie Fanny" feature. He also produced commercial art, two pieces of which, depicting Roman and Revolutionary War battle scenes for toy soldier sets, became familiar pieces of Americana after gracing the back covers of countless comic books from the early 1960s to early 1970s. A number of Heath's drawings of fighter jets in DC Comics' '' All-American Men of War'' were the uncredited and uncompensated basis for pop artist Roy Lichtenstein's oil paintings ''Whaam!'', Blam (Roy Lichtenstein), ''Blam'', ''Okay Hot-Shot, Okay!'', and ''Brattata''. A jungle girl (so-called, but usually adult woman) is an archetype or stock character, often used in popular fiction, of a female adventurer, superhero or even a damsel in distress living in a jungle or rainforest setting. An alternate depiction is a caveman, cave girl. Description Jungle girls are generally depicted as wearing either a scanty animal print (usually leopard) bikini or some type of jungle dress made from fur, leather, or sometimes vegetation. Most are barefoot, while some are shown in primitive shoes. Some are feral children; some come from a wealthy, educated family who grew up in the jungle. Red Sonja
Red Sonja is a fictional sword and sorcery comic-book superheroine created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics in 1973, partially inspired by Robert E. Howard's character Red Sonya of Rogatino. Marvel Comics published stories featuring Red Sonja until 1986, and returned to the character for a one-shot story in 1995. In 2005, Dynamite Entertainment began publishing stories of the heroine, during which the original Sonja was killed and replaced by a "reincarnation". The series was rebooted by writer Gail Simone in 2013, telling an altered version of Red Sonja's early life story via flashbacks. The Medal of Honor (MOH) is the United States Armed Forces' highest military decoration and is awarded to recognize American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, guardians and coast guardsmen who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. The medal is normally awarded by the president of the United States, but as it is presented "in the name of the United States Congress", it is sometimes erroneously referred to as the "Congressional Medal of Honor". There are three distinct variants of the medal: one for the Army, awarded to soldiers, one for the Naval Service, awarded to sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen, and one for the Air and Space Forces, awarded to airmen and guardians.
