The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize is an annual Australian portrait prize founded by Doug Moran in 1988, the year of Australia's Bicentenary. It is the richest portrait prize in the world with A$150,000 awarded to the winner. Ben Quilty
Ben Quilty (born 1973) is an Australian artist and social commentator, who has won a series of painting prizes: the 2014 Prudential Eye Award, 2011 Archibald Prize, and 2009 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. He has been described as one of Australia's most famous living artists. Early life and education Quilty was born in Sydney in 1973, and grew up in Kenthurst in Sydney's north-west. He was educated at Kenthurst Public School and Oakhill College, where he exhibited his HSC artwork in ARTEXPRESS in 1991 (or 1992). Subsequently, Quilty was selected as the recipient of the Julian Ashton Summer School Scholarship. Tim Storrier AM (born 13 February 1949, Sydney) is an Australian artist who won the 2012 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize with ''The Lunar Savant'', a portrait of fellow artist McLean Edwards. Louise Hearman
Louise Hearman (born 1963) is an artist from Melbourne who has been painting and drawing from a very young age. At high school level she attended Tintern Church of England Girls Grammar School in Ringwood in East Victoria where she showed much ability in her art classes. She attended Victorian College of the Arts from 1982–1984. She mostly paints with oil on masonite, though she does work with pastel and charcoal from time to time. Life and career Hearman first came to public notice in 1986 when she spent a year painting a mural on the inside of the concrete dome of the old gymnasium at the Missions to Seamen building in Flinders Street in Melbourne. Nigel Milsom
Nigel Milsom is an Australian painter. Early life Milsom was born in 1975 in the southern New South Wales city of Albury. He completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) at the University of Newcastle in 1998, and then undertook postgraduate studies at the College of Fine Arts of the University of New South Wales, gaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in 1999 and a Master of Fine Arts in 2002. Milsom worked at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in the early 2000s as a Gallery Services officer and credits this experience as another part of his art education. In 2014, Milsom was convicted and sentenced to a maximum six-and-a-half years imprisonment for the April 2012 armed robbery, while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, of a 7-Eleven in Glebe, an inner neighbourhood of Sydney.
