Doug Hansen (baseball)
Douglas William Hansen (December 16, 1928 – September 16, 1999) was an American professional baseball player whose career extended from 1947–1951, 1953–1954 and 1956. All but three games of his 728-game professional career were in minor league baseball. He appeared in three Major League contests as a pinch runner for the Cleveland Indians and scored two runs. Hansen was an infielder by trade. Born in Los Angeles, California, he stood tall, weighed and threw and batted right-handed. In September 1950, he made his three pinch-running appearances for Cleveland. In his first game, an extra-inning contest against the Chicago White Sox on September 4, he pinch run for Indians pitcher Early Wynn — who had reached base as a pinch hitter. Pinch Runner
In baseball, a pinch runner is a player substituted for the specific purpose of replacing another player on base. The pinch runner may be faster or otherwise more skilled at base-running than the player for whom the pinch runner has been substituted. Occasionally a pinch runner is inserted for other reasons (such as a double switch, ejection, or if the original player on base has become injured, such as having been hit by a pitch). A pinch runner is not credited with a game played for the purpose of consecutive game streaks, per Rule 10.24(c) of baseball's Official Rules. For example, in May 1984, Alfredo Griffin of the Toronto Blue Jays scored the winning run in a game, yet his consecutive game streak ended as he appeared only as a pinch runner. Early Wynn
Early Wynn Jr. (January 6, 1920 – April 4, 1999), nicknamed "Gus", was an American professional baseball right-handed pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians, and Chicago White Sox, during his 23-year MLB career. Wynn was identified as one of the most intimidating pitchers in the game, having combined his powerful fastball with a hard attitude toward batters. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. Wynn signed with the Senators at the age of 17, deciding to forgo completing his high school education to begin pursuing a baseball career. He spent three seasons in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) before achieving his first MLB stint in 1939. Wynn returned to the big leagues two years later and in 1942 pitched his first full MLB season.
