Doug Gillespie
Douglas James Gillespie (13 December 1887 – 6 January 1947) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family One of the eight children (five boys and three girls) of James Gillespie (1856–1913), and Mary Gillespie (1859–1924), née Gallagher, Douglas James Gillespie was born at the Melbourne Zoo, in Royal Park, in Parkville, Victoria on 14 December 1887. His younger twin brother, Dave Gillespie, also played for Carlton (90 games from 1906 to 1912, including the 1906 and 1907 premierships). All five Gillespie brothers served in the First AIF: David Francis Gillespie (1887–1917), Douglas James Gillespie (1887–1947), Gordon Charles Gillespie (1890–1937), Robert Bruce Gillespie (1895–1969), and William Wallace Gillespie (1898–1967). Brunswick Football Club
Brunswick Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football League, Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1897 until 1991. Based in Brunswick, Victoria, for most of their time in the Association they were known as the Magpies, and wore black and white guernseys. In its final two seasons in the VFA, it was known as Brunswick-Broadmeadows. History Brunswick Football Club was formed in 1865 and joined the VFA in the 1897 season. The club was colloquially known in its early days as the ''Pottery Workers'' or the ''Brickfielders'', and its fans were known for sounding clayhole bells at matches; after changing their colours from light blue and red colors to black and white, they became informally, and then later formally, known as the Magpies. Doug Fraser (Australian Footballer)
Douglas Stewart Fraser (7 December 1886 – 24 February 1919) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A Yarraville Football Club premiership player in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), Fraser broke into a strong Carlton team in the 1910 VFL season and established a place in the side as a follower. He kicked three goals in a win over Geelong at Princes Park. Fraser is best remembered for his involvement in the bribery scandal that hit the league during the 1910 finals series. Together with Doug Gillespie and his childhood friend Alex Lang, Fraser was withdrawn from the Semi Final against South Melbourne while Carlton and the league investigated allegations that they had accepted bribes to 'play dead'. Lang and Fraser were both found guilty and suspended for five years, a total of 99 league games.
