Doug Cash
Earl Douglas Cash (15 July 1919 – 15 February 2002) was an Australian politician. Life Born in Manitoba, Canada, he migrated to Australia in 1923, where he attended Perth Boys' School and the University of Western Australia. He was a public servant before serving in the military 1940–1946. After the war, he became a businessman. In 1958, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Stirling, defeating sitting Labor member Harry Webb. He was defeated by Webb in 1961. Division Of Stirling
The Division of Stirling was an Australian electoral division in the inner northern and beachside suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, which included a large portion of the local government area of the City of Stirling. History The electorate was created in the Western Australia redistribution of 10 August 1955, and was named after Sir James Stirling, the 19th-century founding lieutenant governor and governor of Western Australia. Stirling covered a demographically diverse area, including several affluent beachside suburbs, as well as working class areas further inland. As a result, Stirling was often a marginal seat, alternating between the Australian Labor Party and the Liberal Party of Australia. Unlike some marginal seats on the east coast, such as Eden-Monaro, Stirling was not often seen as a reliable barometer for winning government. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. Mirrabooka is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. Geography The district is based in the northern suburbs of Perth. It includes Alexander Heights, Balga, Koondoola, Mirrabooka, Westminster and parts of Ballajura and Dianella. History The district was created for the 2013 state election, essentially as a new name for the district of Nollamara. It was won by sitting Nollamara MP Janine Freeman. An earlier incarnation of the district existed from 1968 to 1974. First contested at the 1968 state election, it was won by Doug Cash of the Liberal Party. Cash was defeated one term later by Labor candidate Arthur Tonkin. Harry Webb (politician)
Charles Harry Webb (2 February 1908 – 15 November 2000) was an Australian politician. Born in England, he migrated to Australia in 1913 and was educated at state schools, after which he became a locomotive engineman. He rose to become Secretary of the Western Australian branch of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen, and was a member of the executive of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. He was also president of the Western Australian Trades Union Industrial Council, and served as president of the Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch), Western Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party from 1946 to 1955. In 1954, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Division of Swan, Swan, and transferred to the new seat of Division of Stirling, Stirling in 1955.
