Anna Hanson Dorsey
Anna Hanson Dorsey (1815 – 26 December 1896) was an American author of novels and short stories. A convert to Catholicism, she was a pioneer of Catholic literature in the United States. Family Born Anna Hanson in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the Rev. William McKenney, a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, and Chloe Ann Lanigan McKenney. In 1837 she married Lorenzo Dorsey, a Baltimore judge. Their only son died fighting on the Union side in the American Civil War. Her daughter, Ella Loraine Dorsey, was an author. Writing career Dorsey converted to Catholicism in 1840 and thereafter devoted herself to Catholic literature, mainly in the form of stories and novels, although she wrote a small amount of poetry as well. Her more than 40 novels frequently centered on a religious conversion narrative aimed at her largely Protestant audiences, and her ''New York Times'' obituary referred to her as a pioneer of Catholic literature in the United States. Mike Dorsey (1930 – 24 October 2014) was an English-born Australian theatre and television actor and publicity officer and tour manager. Dorsey appeared in the TV series ''The Unloved'', but was best known his television soap opera roles in ''Number 96'' as Reginald "Daddy" McDonald, and ''The Young Doctors'', as Sir Clifford Langley. he also played in the TV series ''Lockie Leonard''. Early life and career Dorsey was born in Yorkshire, England. His acting career began in the late 1940s when he started acting with the Gate Theatre, Dublin, in bit parts. Mattie Dorsey
Mattie Dorsey was an American classic female blues and country blues singer. She recorded four sides for Paramount Records in mid-1927, and had a career in vaudeville in the 1910s and 1920s. Little is known of her life outside of the entertainment business. Biography No details appear to exist regarding her early life. It has been recorded that Mattie Dorsey had been active in black vaudeville since 1910, perhaps earlier. There is some evidence that Dorsey was originally part of the Whitman Sisters act, although she left them in 1910. She retained the Whitman surname for publicity purposes for several more years. In 1919, Pinetop Smith appeared alongside "Mattie Dorsey's Big Four" at a show in Memphis, Tennessee. Leon Lee Dorsey
Leon Lee Dorsey (born March 12, 1958) is an American jazz bassist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator known for his well-received debut for Landmark Records. He teaches at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Raised by a family plugged into Pittsburgh’s jazz lineage, Dorsey began playing instruments at an early age. He picked up the piano and cello first, soon after joining the Pittsburgh Symphony at the famed Center for the Musically Talented. He began his undergraduate studies at Oberlin College, where he was the first to receive a B.M in classical Double Bass and Jazz Performance. Dorsey also graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory and was one of several jazz luminaries at the opening of their new jazz facility, the Bertram and Judith Kohl building. Leon Dorsey
Leon David Dorsey IV (November 17, 1975 – August 12, 2008), also known as Pistol Pete, was an American serial killer who shot and killed two Blockbuster store employees and a Korean store clerk in Texas over several months in 1994. He confessed and was later given a death sentence. He was executed at the Huntsville Unit on August 12, 2008. Murders On the night of April 4, 1994, Dorsey entered a Blockbuster store in Dallas, where 20-year-old Brad Lindsey and 26-year-old James Armstrong were working. Dorsey forced the two into the back room, where he forced them to open the safe. When Armstrong tried to flee, Dorsey shot him, and then shot Lindsey, presumably to prevent a possible eyewitness. He then took over $400 from the register, leaving Armstrong and Lindsey to die. Irving Lee Dorsey (December 24, 1924 – December 1, 1986) was an American pop and R&B singer during the 1960s. His biggest hits were "Ya Ya" (1961) and " Working in the Coal Mine" (1966). Kenneth Simon Dorsey (born April 22, 1981) is an American football coach and former quarterback who is the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Miami, where he was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and national champion, and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft, later playing for the Cleveland Browns and the CFL's Toronto Argonauts before retiring in 2010.
