Dorchester Temple Baptist Church
Dorchester Temple Baptist Church is a historic African American Baptist church at 670 Washington Street in Boston, Massachusetts. It is now known as Global Ministries Christian Church. The church was designed in 1889 by Arthur H. Vinal in the shingle style and added to the National Historic Register in 1998. The church was built for a Baptist congregation established in 1886, and is the oldest Baptist church building in Dorchester. It suffered some damage in the 1938 New England hurricane, which was repaired. In January 2010 the church started media ministry reaching all of North America under the name Boston Praise Radio, which is available online and via Glorystar Satellite service on channel 1010. In 2016, the church began broadcasting on WBPG-LP 102.9 FM. Arthur Higelin (born 27 March 1966), better known under his stage name Arthur H (), is a French pianist, songwriter and singer. He is best known in France for his live performances—four of his albums were recorded live. Life and career He is the son of the French singer Jacques Higelin and Nicole Courtois, and half brother of singers Izïa Higelin and stage and film actor, theatre director and music video director Kên Higelin. After traveling in the West Indies, he studied music in Boston before returning to Paris and developing his eclectic but highly personal musical style, drawing on such influences as Thelonious Monk, Serge Gainsbourg, the Sex Pistols, jazz, blues, Middle Eastern music and the tango. 1938 New England Hurricane
The 1938 New England Hurricane (also referred to as the Great New England Hurricane and the Long Island Express Hurricane) was one of the deadliest and most destructive tropical cyclones to strike Long Island, New York, and New England. The storm formed near the coast of Africa on September 9, becoming a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane scale, before making landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on Long Island on Wednesday, September 21. It is estimated that the hurricane killed 682 people, damaged or destroyed more than 57,000 homes, and caused property losses estimated at $306 million ($4.7 billion in 2017). Multiple other sources, however, mention that the 1938 hurricane might have really been a more powerful Category 4, having winds similar to Hurricanes Hugo, Harvey, Frederic and Gracie when it ran through Long Island and New England.
