Dorchester (provincial Electoral District)
Dorchester was a provincial electoral district in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1970. It disappeared in the 1973 election and its successor electoral districts were Bellechasse, Beauce-Nord, and Beauce-Sud. Chaudière-Appalaches () is an administrative region in Quebec, Canada. It comprises most of what is historically known as the "Beauce" (french: La Beauce; compare with the electoral district of Beauce). It is named for the Chaudière River and the Appalachian Mountains. Chaudière-Appalaches has a population of 420,082 residents (as of the Canada 2016 Census) and a land area of . The main cities are Lévis, Saint-Georges, Thetford Mines, Sainte-Marie and Montmagny. Louis-Philippe Pelletier
Louis-Philippe Pelletier, (February 1, 1857 – February 8, 1921) was a Canadian lawyer, journalist, newspaper owner, politician, professor, and judge. Biography Born in Trois-Pistoles, Lower Canada, the son of Thomas-Philippe Pelletier and Caroline Casault, the sister of Louis-Napoléon Casault, Pelletier was educated at the Collège de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière and received a law degree from the Université Laval. He articled with Auguste-Réal Angers and was called to the Quebec bar in 1880. After being defeated in the 1908 federal election, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Quebec County in the 1911 election. A Conservative, he was the Postmaster General from 1911 to 1914. He resigned in October 1914 and was appointed a Superior Court judge for the district of Montreal. Florian Guay
Florian Guay was a politician in Quebec, Canada and a Member of the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA). Background He was born in Saint-Léon-de-Standon, Quebec on November 23, 1941. Prior to running for office, he was a Social Credit activist and managed a furniture store. Provincial politics Guay ran as a candidate of the Ralliement créditiste in the 1970 provincial election and won, becoming the Member of the National Assembly for the district of Dorchester. During his term of office, the party was plagued by internal divisions. While three MNAs remained loyal to Leader Camil Samson, Guay and the rest of the caucus withdrew their support and appointed Armand Bois as temporary leader, until a leadership convention could determine a new leader. Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. Joseph-Damase Bégin, also known as Jos-D. Bégin, was a Canadian politician and an eight-term Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. Background He was born on August 6, 1900 in Lac-Etchemin, Quebec and was a car dealer. Member of the legislature Bégin first won a seat to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec as an Action libérale nationale candidate in 1935 in the district of Dorchester. Joseph-Charles-Ernest Ouellet
Joseph-Charles-Ernest Ouellet (December 23, 1882 – January 4, 1952) was a farmer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Dorchester in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1917 to 1930 as a Liberal. He was born in Sainte-Germaine-du-Lac-Etchemin, Quebec, the son of Joseph-Sifroid Ouellet and Marie Laflamme. In 1905, he married Marie Ferland. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election on December 15, 1917. He was re-elected in 1919, 1923 and 1927. In 1929 he became a minister without portfolio in the cabinet of Louis-Alexandre Taschereau. Lucien Cannon
Lucien Cannon, (January 16, 1887 – February 14, 1950) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Born in Arthabaska, Quebec, the son of Lawrence John Cannon and Aurélie Dumoulin, he studied law at the Laval University and was called to the Quebec Bar in 1910. His brother was Lawrence Arthur Dumoulin Cannon, a puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Canada. His nephew, Charles-Arthur Dumoulin Cannon, and grandson, Lawrence Cannon, were also MPs. In 1911 federal election, he ran as a Liberal candidate for the House of Commons of Canada in the riding of Charlevoix losing to Joseph David Rodolphe Forget. In a 1913 by-election, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec in the riding of Dorchester. A Liberal, he was re-elected in 1916.
