Doppelganger (1993 Film)
''Doppelganger'' (also known as ''Doppelganger: The Evil Within'') is a 1993 American supernatural horror thriller film written and directed by Avi Nesher, starring Drew Barrymore and George Newbern. The film premiered at the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival in January 1993, where it was nominated for the "Grand Prize" award. It was released on VHS on May 26, 1993 in the United States. The film was George Maharis's last role. Plot The story follows Holly Gooding (Drew Barrymore), who moves from New York City to Los Angeles after being implicated in a murder. She is followed by what is apparently her evil twin. While in Los Angeles, she finds a room for rent by a writer named Patrick Highsmith ( George Newbern). After some strange occurrences, it becomes less and less clear whether the woman is in fact Holly or her doppelgänger. Patrick soon starts to realize something is odd about Holly. Avi Nesher
Avi Nesher ( Hebrew: אבי נשר; born 13 December 1952) is an Israeli film producer, film director, screenwriter and actor. Biography Avi Nesher was born and raised in Ramat Gan, Israel. The child of a Romanian-born diplomat, and a mother who came from Russia. In 1965, he moved with his family to the United States. He graduated from high school at sixteen and studied international relations at Columbia University. In 1971 he returned to Israel. Nesher enlisted into the IDF elite special forces unit Sayeret Matkal, but after a year was reassigned as an intelligence analyst. Film career In 1978, Nesher directed and produced his first film, ''HaLahaka'' (Hebrew: "הלהקה", lit. ''The Band''), which depicted an army entertainment troupe similar to the Nahal troupe (להקת הנח"ל). Stanley DeSantis
Stanley DeSantis (July 6, 1953 – August 9, 2005) was an American actor and businessman. DeSantis was raised in the Chicago area, and graduated from Thornton Township High School in 1971. He appeared in several motion pictures, including '' Candyman'' (1992), ''Ed Wood'' (1994), ''Boogie Nights'' (1997), ''Rush Hour'' (1998), ''I Am Sam'' (2001), and '' The Aviator '' (2004). He also made many television appearances. When not acting, DeSantis owned and managed a clothing-and-memorabilia business, Passing 4 Sane, and a novelty soap company, Bubbletown, both of which were primarily involved in licensed characters.
