Dopp is an unincorporated community in the town of Belmont in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. Geography Dopp is located in central Wisconsin approximately nine miles east of Almond, or four miles north of Wild Rose. Dopp rests on the intersection of Portage County Road AA, and Wisconsin State Highway 22. Wisconsin State Highway 22 in Portage County is a two mile stretch of road between Waupaca County and Waushara County. (Lat: 44° 15' 08.1", Lon: -89° 14' 40.9") Local information Dopp was named for the family which had settled in the region. At one time, Dopp featured two schools, a post office, church, and cemetery. Currently, only the church and cemetery still stand - but without congregation. Today, Dopp has a large Dairy Farm (the Dopp Dairy Domain) and the Wisconsin Spray Millet Corporation for industry, still surrounded by rural housing. Almond, Wisconsin
Almond is a village in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 448 at the 2010 census. History Incorporated in 1905, the town originated when Jacob Meyers from the Mohawk Valley in New York started a stagecoach and freight route between Berlin and Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Because he needed a stop for the horses, he set up a barn and inn on the site of what is now Almond. The U.S. government signed a treaty with the Menominee Natives ceding land in central Wisconsin in 1848, which opened up the area to settlement. Katharine Elizabeth Dopp (''first name sometimes misspelt as'' "Katherine", ''and signed her books of fiction as'' "Katharine E. Dopp") (b. March 1, 1863 in Portage County, Wisconsin – d. March 14, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois) was one of the foremost American educators at the turn of the 20th century, and one of the first to advocate the involvement of business in education. Waushara County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,520. Its county seat is Wautoma. Waushara County is located in central Wisconsin, about north of Madison. History Waushara County was established by an act of the Wisconsin Legislature on February 15, 1851. It originally consisted of a single organized Town of Waushara. In 1852 the county achieved full organization. Waupaca County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 51,812. The county seat is Waupaca. The county was created in 1851 and organized in 1853. It is named after the Waupaca River, a Menominee language name meaning 'white sand bottom', 'pale water', or 'tomorrow river'. History Ancient indigenous peoples constructed earthworks that expressed their religious and political concepts. An early European explorer counted 72 such earthen mounds in what is now Waupaca County, many of them in the form of effigy mounds, shaped like "humans, turtles, catfish and others." State Trunk Highway 22 (often called Highway 22, STH-22 or WIS 22) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The route's trajectory is mostly south to north, with the exception of the segment between Shawano and the northern terminus being east–west. It is generally a two-lane surface road providing a connecting route between Waupaca, Shawano, Gillett and Oconto. Various urban sections have multilane segments.
