Doom (British Band)
Doom are an English hardcore punk band from Birmingham whose first lineup were together from 1987 to 1990. Despite its short existence, the band is considered pivotal in the rise of crust punk, a genre of punk rock that takes influence and elements from extreme metal. They recorded for Peaceville Records and are cited as an early precursor to grindcore. Doom were also a favourite of BBC Radio DJ John Peel. History Early history Doom began as ''The Subverters'' with Jon Pickering (bass/vocals), Bri Doom (guitar) and Jason Hodges (drums). After Jason was replaced by new drummer Mick Harris the band changed their name to Doom. This lineup played several concerts in a crossover metal style. Gramophone Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. Strange Fruit Records was an independent record label in the United Kingdom. The label, established by Clive Selwood and John Peel in 1986, was the primary distributor of BBC recordings, including Peel Sessions.Larkin, Colin (ed.) ''No Security'' is a live album by the Rolling Stones released by Virgin Records in 1998. Recorded over the course of the band's 1997–1998 worldwide Bridges to Babylon Tour, it was the band's eighth official full-length live release. Hiatus (band)
Hiatus was a Belgian hardcore punk band from Liege, Belgium, formed in 1989, that broke up in 1996. History Hiatus formed in May 1989, at this time the line-up was Phill, Ben, Raf and Phil. They played in a Doom/ Discharge/ E.N.T. style and recorded a rehearsal demo called "The Frightening Men Story". In May 1990, they put out their second rehearsal demo called "In My Mind" and soon after Wills joined them on bass. The band went into the studio and recorded a set of songs which were released on two 7-inches and various compilations. Their first 7-inch "I don't scare easily but..." was released on the French label Urban Alert Records and had a second pressing on Nabate/Mother Peace Records. A split 7-inch with RMR from Japan called "Severe Existence" was Hiatus' second 7-inch and was released on the Japanese label MCR Co. DIRT (band)
DIRT (Death Is Reality Today) were an English anarcho-punk band from London, England. Initially formed in 1980 (with a core line-up of Gary Buckley, Deno, Fox, Lou and Vomit), the band frequently played with fellow anarchists Crass, before releasing their first EP, ''Object, Refuse, Reject, Abuse'' on the Crass Records label. Their second release, ''Never Mind Dirt, Here's the Bollocks'', also on the Crass label, was a live LP released in 1983. The band went into a brief hiatus after 1982 when they took to the road again (Gary and Deno recruiting new members Stuart, Paul and Richard) and recorded the ''Just An Error'' album, after which they split in 1986. Gary and Deno reconvened the band again in 1992 and began touring extensively which resulted in the ''Drunks in Rusty Transits'' album after which the band was dissolved.
