O'Dowd
O'Dowd ( ga, Ó Dubhda) is an Irish Gaelic clan based most prominently in what is today County Mayo and County Sligo. The clan name originated in the 9th century as a derivative of its founder Dubda mac Connmhach. They descend in the paternal line from the Connachta's Uí Fiachrach. The immediate progenitors of the O'Dowd were Kings of Connacht during the 7th and 8th centuries in the form of Dúnchad Muirisci, Indrechtach mac Dúnchado, Ailill Medraige mac Indrechtaig and Donn Cothaid mac Cathail, before losing ground to their rivals the Uí Briúin. Genealogically, they are closely related to the O'Shaughnessy, MacFirbis, O’Finnerty (Ó Fiannachta) all members of Clan Conway (i.e. Connmhach). Indeed, the O'Dowd were the main patrons of the MacFirbis clan who produced key works of Irish history such as the Great Book of Lecan and the ''Leabhar na nGenealach''. Pat Doody
Patrick Doody (11 November 1938 – 28 February 1990) was a British broadcaster. Although his father was the owner of a theatre company, Doody chose to go into broadcasting work rather than acting. After serving time in the Royal Signals, he began his career with the British Forces Broadcasting Service in Cyprus. He later moved to BBC Radio, where he became best known for presenting ''Night Ride'' for Radio 1 and Radio 2. Doody moved into television and worked as a continuity announcer for Border Television in Carlisle and Tyne Tees Television in Newcastle, latterly becoming Senior Announcer at Border. He freelanced at LWT and voiced many local commercials for Metro Radio in Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle. His voice was also heard as the announcer of Border's popular networked series, Mr & Mrs (TV series), Mr. and Mrs. He also ran his own broadcast facilities company, Videoforce Ltd. Samuel Doody
Samuel Doody (1656–1706) was an early English botanist. Life The eldest of the second family of his father, John Doody, an apothecary in Staffordshire who later moved to London where he had a shop in The Strand, he was born in Staffordshire 28 May 1656. He went into his father's business, to which he succeeded about 1696. He undertook the care of the Apothecaries' Garden at Chelsea in 1693, at a salary of £100, which he seems to have continued until his death. Two years later he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society. He died, after some weeks' illness, the last week in November 1706, and was buried at Hampstead 3 December, his funeral sermon being preached by his friend Adam Buddle. Patrick Doody (born April 22, 1992) is a retired American soccer player who last played for the Chicago Fire in the MLS. Career Youth College Doody was a member of the Chicago Fire Academy for three seasons before spending his college career at Indiana University. He made a total of 86 appearances for the Hoosiers and tallied six goals and 12 assists, helping lead them to a College Cup title in 2012. Doody also played in the Premier Development League for Chicago Fire U-23. Professional On December 22, 2014, Doody signed a homegrown contract with the Chicago Fire. Michael J. J. Doody (born September 29, 1936) is a Canadian politician, who served as mayor of Timmins, Ontario from 1977 to 1980. Early life In 1959, Doody moved from his hometown of Val d'Or, Quebec to Timmins to work at CKGB-FM. In 1974, Doody began working at CFCL-TV and hosted a talk and current affairs show, ''Midday''. Municipal politics Doody was elected as a town councillor in 1970. He then ran for Mayor in 1976, defeating incumbent, Leo Del Villano, and served in this position from 1977 to 1980; two terms of office. He then exited politics until 1985, when he was elected as a councillor and remained in this position until 1996.
