Donte Lamar Nicholson (born December 18, 1981, in Los Angeles, California) is a former American football safety who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Buccaneers in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oklahoma. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The primary purposes of tackling are to dispossess an opponent of the ball, to stop the player from gaining ground towards goal or to stop them from carrying out what they intend.
