''Donna Summer'' is the self-titled tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Donna Summer, released on July 19, 1982. It featured the Top 10, Grammy-nominated " Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)" single and State of Independence. On its 40th anniversary in 2022, Donna Summer's estate announced a re-issue of the album with one unreleased track, which was originally a B-side on the lead single, "Love Is In Control (Finger on the Trigger). Certain songs were quite challenging for Summer to record, as she was pregnant with her daughter Amanda Grace at the time. On the US Billboard Hot 100, "Love is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)" peaked at number 10. Second single, "State of Independence" missed the top 40 and the third and final single The Woman In Me managed to peak at number 33. Donna Summer
LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer and songwriter. She gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s and became known as the " Queen of Disco", while her music gained a global following. Influenced by the counterculture of the 1960s, Summer became the lead singer of a psychedelic rock band named Crow and moved to New York City. In 1968, she joined a German adaptation of the musical ''Hair'' in Munich, where she spent several years living, acting, and singing. There, she met music producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, and they went on to record influential disco hits together such as " Love to Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love", marking Summer's breakthrough into international music markets. Robert Thomas Christgau ( ; born April 18, 1942) is an American music journalist and essayist. Among the most well-known and influential music critics, he began his career in the late 1960s as one of the earliest professional rock critics and later became an early proponent of musical movements such as hip hop, riot grrrl, and the import of African popular music in the West. Christgau spent 37 years as the chief music critic and senior editor for ''The Village Voice'', during which time he created and oversaw the annual Pazz & Jop critics poll. David Lawrence Geffen (born February 21, 1943) is an American business magnate, producer and film studio executive. He co-created Asylum Records in 1971 with Elliot Roberts, Geffen Records in 1980, DGC Records in 1990, and DreamWorks SKG in 1994. Early life David Geffen was born in Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York, to Abraham Geffen and Batya Volovskaya (1909–1988). Geffen's mother owned a clothing store in Borough Park called Chic Corsets by Geffen. Giovanni Giorgio Moroder (, ; born 26 April 1940) is an Italian composer, songwriter, and record producer. Dubbed the "Honorific nicknames in popular music, Father of Disco", Moroder is credited with pioneering euro disco and electronic dance music. His work with synthesizers had a large influence on several music genres such as Hi-NRG, Italo disco, new wave, house and techno music. When in Munich in the 1970s, Moroder started his own record label called Oasis Records, which several years later became a subdivision of Casablanca Records. Casablanca Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group and operated under Republic Records. Under its founder Neil Bogart, Casablanca was most successful during the disco era of the mid to late 1970s. The label currently focuses on dance and electronic music under the direction of Brett Alperowitz. ''The Wanderer'' is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Donna Summer. It was released on October 20, 1980 and marked a musical departure for Summer, being an album influenced by Rock and new-wave whilst previous albums all fell under the Disco music category. The inaugural release of the Geffen Records label, it became a Top 20 album in the United States, with the title track reaching No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100; Other singles failed to enter the top ten. However, the record was more unsuccessful on the charts than her previous album " Bad Girls", which topped the Billboard 200 for five weeks. This album had been out of print but was re-released on December 9, 2014, on the Driven by the Music label (remastered/bonus tracks). "The Woman in Me" is a song by American singer Donna Summer, released as the third and final single from her eponymous tenth studio album (1982). The song reached number 33 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, number 30 on the Black Singles chart, and number 17 on the Adult Contemporary chart in early 1983. It was written by John Bettis of Carpenters fame. In North America, the single was also released on a 12-inch blue vinyl picture disc featuring the album cover artwork on an enlarged paper label.
