Doncaster Rovers F.C. Academy
Doncaster Rovers Academy is the youth team run by Doncaster Rovers to encourage and develop young footballers in South Yorkshire. The youth team runs 9 teams and has over 100 players from the ages of 8 to 17. Tony Cook is the current academy manager and was promoted to this position in January 2019 after initially joined the club as head of academy coaching in September 2017. The academy team plays in the Football League Youth Alliance, North East Conference and is only for players below the age of 18. Home games are played at the club's training ground at Cantley Park. The role of the Doncaster Rovers Academy is to develop players and their abilities to their full potential for the club's first team. Tony Cook (footballer, Born 1976)
Anthony Cook (born 17 September 1976) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League as a midfielder for Colchester United. Career Born in Hemel Hempstead, Cook began his career at Queens Park Rangers when he was just 11 years old and then went on as a youth apprentice with Football League club Colchester United, making his debut for the first-team on 11 January 1994 in a Football League Trophy third round 1–0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, alongside fellow debutants Justin Booty, John Cheesewright and Grant Watts. He came on as a substitute for Booty. He made two appearances in the Football League, the first coming on 30 April 1994 in a 3–1 home victory over Doncaster Rovers, a match in which he started, and his final appearance came in the following game, a 2–0 away defeat to Carlisle United, coming on for Steve Ball. Stan Brookes
Stan Brookes (born 2 February 1953) was an English former footballer who played for Doncaster Rovers and KV Mechelen as a defender. Ian Snodin
Ian Snodin (born 15 August 1963) is an English football manager, former professional player and sports analyst. As a player he was a midfielder, notably playing in the top flight for Leeds United and Everton, appearing in the Premier League for the latter. He also played in the Football League with Doncaster Rovers , Sunderland, Oldham Athletic and Scarborough. He was capped four times by the England U21 during the 1984–85 season. In 1998 he returned to Doncaster as player-manager but following his departure 18 months later has since worked in sports media as a TV and radio analyst. Glynn Snodin
Glynn Snodin (born 14 February 1960) is an English football coach, and former professional player. As a player, he was a midfielder from 1977 to 1998. He played for Doncaster Rovers and later made just under 100 appearances for Leeds United and spent two years with Sheffield Wednesday. Whilst with Leeds, Snodin was loaned out to Oldham Athletic and Rotherham United before having spell with Scottish Premier Division side Hearts. In 1993, he spent two years with Barnsley before finishing his playing career in the Northern Premier League with Gainsborough Trinity. He later came out of retirement 14 years later joining non-league outfit Yorkshire Main on a sporadic basis where he played a handful of games over a three year period. Paul Raven (footballer)
Paul Duncan Raven (born 28 July 1970) is a former professional footballer who played as a defender between 1987 and 2006. He notably played for West Bromwich Albion and Grimsby Town. Playing career Raven was born in Salisbury, England. He added to the first-team squad at Doncaster Rovers in 1987. After his first season with Rovers, he moved to West Bromwich Albion. Raven played for Albion for the next eleven years, while also spending time on loan with former club Doncaster and Rotherham United. In July 2000, Raven joined Grimsby Town on a free transfer. Grimsby were managed by Alan Buckley for whom he had previously played at West Brom. Although Buckley was sacked eight weeks later, Raven played for three years at Blundell Park. Mark Rankine
Simon Mark Rankine (born 30 September 1969) is an English former footballer, who played over 700 games in English football in a 19-year career. Club career Early career Rankine began his career as a schoolboy at Manchester United, but was not offered a YTS contract and was released. He subsequently joined his hometown club Doncaster Rovers and progressed through their youth system, being part of the team that reached the 1988 FA Youth Cup final. Doncaster Rovers Rankine made his senior debut on 15 August 1987 in a 1–0 win over Grimsby Town in the Third Division. The club were relegated to the fourth tier that season, but Rankine had managed to become a regular member of the first-team squad. Brian Makepeace
Brian Makepeace (6 October 1931 – June 2024) was an English footballer who captained and played as a right-back for Doncaster Rovers. Career Youth Whilst working at the pit, Makepeace played for Rossington Miners Welfare before moving to Jackie Bestalls Doncaster Rovers juniors in March 1949 as a 17-year-old. Doncaster Rovers Makepeace's first game for the senior team was 17 February 1951 when Doncaster lost 4–2 away at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers, leaving Doncaster in 9th place in Division Two. Alick Jeffrey
Alick Jeffrey (29 January 1939 – 22 November 2000) was an English professional footballer who played as a striker. Jeffrey made nearly 300 appearances in the Football League, scoring over 100 goals. Career Born in Rawmarsh, Jeffrey made his senior debut for Doncaster Rovers in 1954, at the age of just 15. Jeffrey was considered one of the most promising players in the country, and played for England U23 when still a teenager. He had an agreement with Manchester United that he would move there at the end of the 1956–57 season, but Jeffrey sustained a badly broken leg playing for England U23 v France in October 1956, and it was immediately apparent that he might never play again. James Andrew Husband (born 3 January 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a left-back or a centre-back for EFL League One club Blackpool. Darius Henderson
Darius Alexis Henderson (born 7 September 1981) is an English professional footballer who last played as a striker for Eastleigh. Born in Sutton, England, (although he is often mistakenly cited as being born in Doncaster, where he moved at a young age and attended school in the town), Henderson started his football career as a junior with Doncaster Rovers before signing professionally for Reading. Having spent four years at Reading he then moved initially to Gillingham before being signed by Watford with whom he achieved promotion from the Championship and played in the Premier League during the 2006–07 season. Paul Jason Green (born 10 April 1983) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Green spent seven years at Doncaster Rovers, where he played more than 250 matches and earned three promotions in five years (from the non-league to the Football League Championship) as well as winning the Football League Trophy. Ron Flowers
Ronald Flowers (28 July 1934 – 12 November 2021) was an English professional Association football, footballer, who played as a midfielder, and was most known for his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., Wolverhampton Wanderers.
