Doncaster Central (UK Parliament Constituency)
Doncaster Central is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 1997 by Dame Rosie Winterton of the Labour Party. Since 2017, Winterton has served as one of three Deputy Speakers of the House; she is the second MP for the constituency to be a Deputy Speaker, after Harold Walker. History and profile Created in 1983, the seat covers most of the large Yorkshire town of Doncaster served by an international airport and the UK motorway network in the former Doncaster constituency. Although formerly considered a Labour stronghold, since 2019 the seat has become a marginal between Labour and the Conservatives. Doncaster North
Doncaster North is a constituency in South Yorkshire, England, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2005 by Ed Miliband of the Labour Party. From 2010 until 2015, he was Leader of the Opposition before he lost the 2015 general election to David Cameron and the Conservatives. Part of the red wall, it was formerly a Labour stronghold, until the 2019 general election when it became a Labour-Conservative marginal. History The constituency was created in 1983 from parts of the former constituencies of Don Valley, Doncaster, Goole, and was a Labour stronghold until the 2019 general election, when Labour held the seat with a significantly reduced majority of 2,370 votes. 2015 United Kingdom General Election
The 2015 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 7 May 2015 to elect 650 members to the House of Commons. It was the first and only general election held at the end of a Parliament under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011. Local elections took place in most areas on the same day. Polls and commentators had predicted the outcome would be too close to call and would result in a second consecutive hung parliament whose composition would be either similar to or more complicated than the 2010 general election. Opinion polls were eventually proven to have underestimated the Conservative vote as the party, having governed in coalition with the Liberal Democrats since 2010, won 330 seats and 36.9% of the vote share, giving them a small overall majority of 12 seats (including Speaker John Bercow—ten seats without him) and their first outright win since 1992. The Yorkshire Party is a regionalist political party in Yorkshire, a historic county of England. Founded in 2014, it campaigns for the establishment of a devolved Yorkshire Parliament within the UK, with powers over education, environment, transport and housing. Tom Hunt (politician)
Thomas Patrick Hunt (born 31 August 1988) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich since 2019. He is a member of the Conservative Party. Earlier in his career, he was a councillor on East Cambridgeshire District Council from 2011 to 2017. Following the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough devolution deal, Hunt also worked as chief of staff to the elected Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Early life Hunt was born and raised in Ely, Cambridgeshire. His father is a long-serving councillor on Cambridgeshire County Council and East Cambridgeshire District Council. The 2017 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 8 June 2017, two years after the previous general election in 2015; it was the first since 1992 to be held on a day that did not coincide with any local elections. House Of Commons Library
The House of Commons Library is the library and information resource of the lower house of the British Parliament. It was established in 1818, although its original 1828 construction was destroyed during the burning of Parliament in 1834. The library has adopted the phrase "Contributing to a well-informed democracy" as a summary of its mission statement. The 1997 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 1 May 1997.
