Donald Ross (golfer)
Donald James Ross (November 23, 1872 – April 26, 1948) was a golf course designer. He was born in Dornoch, Scotland, but became a citizen of and spent most of his adult life in the United States. Ross started his career by being an apprentice to Old Tom Morris at St Andrews in Scotland around 1899. With the help of an American agronomy student, fellow Scotsman Robert White from St. Andrews, Ross decided to move to America. Ross invested all his life savings to move to the United States and walked off the boat with only $2. In America, he got his first job at Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. He quickly rose to the position of golf professional at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, where he began his course designing career. Donald Nixon Ross, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, FRCS (4 October 1922 – 7 July 2014) was a South African-born British thoracic surgeon who was a pioneer of cardiac surgery and led the team that carried out the first heart transplantation in the United Kingdom in 1968. He developed the pulmonary autograft, known as the Ross procedure, for treatment of aortic valve disease. Donald Roe Ross (June 8, 1922 – December 18, 2013) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Education and career Born in Orleans, Nebraska, Ross was in the United States Army as an Air Corps Major from 1942 to 1946. He received a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1948. He was in private practice in Lexington, Nebraska from 1948 to 1953. He was a Republican Executive Committeeman in the state of Nebraska from 1952 to 1953 when he became Mayor of Lexington. Ross was the United States Attorney for the District of Nebraska from 1953 to 1956 and was in private practice in Omaha, Nebraska from 1956 to 1970. He was general counsel for the Republican Party of Nebraska from 1956 to 1958. Donald MacArthur Ross, Lord Ross, PC, FRSE (born 29 March 1927) is a former Lord Justice Clerk; the second most senior judge in Scotland. Personal life He was born in Dundee and educated at the High School of Dundee and the University of Edinburgh. Lord Ross is married with two daughters and six grandchildren. Career He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates and became a King's Counsel in 1964. Donald Francis Ross (born October 11, 1942) is an American former ice hockey player. Early life Ross was born in Roseau, Minnesota. He was a member of the North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team from 1961 to 1965. Career Ross played at the 1964 Winter Olympics and 1968 Winter Olympics for the United States National Team in the Ice hockey at the 1964 Winter Olympics, ice hockey tournament, finishing fifth. Donald Kemp Ross (June 29, 1943May 14, 2022) was an American public interest lawyer. Ross proposed the model of Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGS) with Ralph Nader. Ross became the first director of the NYPIRG (The New York Public Interest Research Group, Inc.). He helped to found the Albany law firm of Malkin & Ross, and its associated advocacy organization M+R Strategic Services. He has served on the board of directors of environmental organizations. Early life and education Ross was the son of Helen (Kemp), a homemaker, and Hugh Ross, an administrator for the Conservation Foundation. Ross graduated with a BA in English from Fordham University, where he was student body president, in 1965. He served in the Peace Corps in Nigeria from 1965 to 1967.
