Donald Cameron Sr.
Donald Cameron Sr. (September 16, 1869 – January 29, 1936) was a farmer, engineer and a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1921 to 1935 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. Early life Donald Cameron was born in Scotland. He became an engineer and lived in Hong Kong for a time. He moved back to England and had a son Donald Cameron Jr. on March 6, 1901. He moved to Elnora, Alberta in 1906 and began farming. Political career Cameron ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1921 Alberta general election as a United Farmers candidate in the electoral district of Innisfail. He won the seat for his party by sweeping over the incumbent Liberal, Daniel Morkeberg. Cameron ran for a second term in the 1926 Alberta general election. Innisfail was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1905 to 1940 and again from 1971 to 1993. History Innisfail was one of the original 25 electoral districts contested in the 1905 Alberta general election upon Alberta joining Confederation in September 1905. The electoral district was a continuation of the Innisfail Northwest Territories electoral district which was formed in 1902. Daniel Morkeberg
Daniel Joakim Morkeberg (August 2, 1870 – January 28, 1963) was a politician and dairy farmer from Alberta, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1917 to 1921 as a member of the Liberal Party. Early life Born Mørkeberg in Denmark, he was one of eight children by Carl Vilhelm Mørkeberg (1824-1890), tenant farmer of Christiansminde, parish of Beldringe, municipality of Vordingborg, and Caroline Christine Seidenfaden (1833-1914). He was a soldier in the Royal Life Guards (Den Kongelige Livgarde) 1988-1890, and emigrated to western Canada in 1898. In Alberta he became a pioneer in the development of the dairy industry in the province. He was a leader in the movement to unionize dairymen and served as the first president of the Alberta Dairyman's Association in 1919. Alban MacLellan
Alban Erskine MacLellan (February 9, 1902 – December 20, 1968) was a railway foreman and a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1935 to 1940 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in government. Political career MacLellan ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature as a Social Credit candidate in the electoral district of Innisfail for the 1935 Alberta general election. He won a strong first ballot majority defeating three other candidates to pick up the seat for his party. The 1940 boundary redistribution saw the Innisfail electoral district get abolished, along with other districts whose representatives had gone against the Social Credit party line. The United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) is an association of Alberta farmers that has served different roles in its 100-year history – as a lobby group, a successful political party, and as a farm-supply retail chain. 1921 Alberta General Election
The 1921 Alberta general election was held on July 18, 1921, to elect members to the 5th Alberta Legislative Assembly. It was one of only five times that Alberta has changed governments. The Liberal Party, which had governed the province since its creation in 1905, led by Charles Stewart at the time of the election, was defeated by a very-new United Farmers of Alberta political party. The UFA was an agricultural lobby organization that was contesting its first general election. It had previously elected one MLA in a by-election. Under the Block Voting system, each voter in Edmonton and Calgary could vote for up to five candidates, while Medicine Hat voters could vote for up to two candidates. 1926 Alberta General Election
The 1926 Alberta general election was held on June 28, 1926, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The United Farmers of Alberta government that had first been elected in 1921 was re-elected, taking a majority of the seats in the Alberta Legislature. Herbert Greenfield had resigned as United Farmers leader and premier, and John E. Brownlee led the UFA to this second election victory, increasing the UFA's number of seats.
