Donal O'Sullivan (Gaelic Footballer)
Donal O'Sullivan (31 December 1930 – 30 August 2001) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played at club level with Lees GAA, Lees and at inter-county level with the Cork senior football team. He usually lined out as a full-back. O'Sullivan, who is regarded as one of Cork's all-time greatest players, also served as a Gaelic Athletic Association administrator at county and inter-provincial levels. Born in Cork (city), Cork, O'Sullivan was the son of Timothy O'Sullivan (Fianna Fáil politician), Timothy O'Sullivan, a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála, TD and Seanad, Senator. His early football career included several seasons with UCC GAA, University College Cork in the Sigerson Cup and with the Lees GAA, Lees club with whom he won a Cork Senior Football Championship, Cork Senior Championship medal as captain in 1955. Timothy O'Sullivan (Fianna Fáil Politician)
Timothy (Ted) O'Sullivan (26 July 1899 – 3 March 1971) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician from County Cork. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for 27 years, and a Seanad Éireann, Senator for 15 years. O'Sullivan was elected to Dáil Éireann at his first attempt, as a Fianna Fáil candidate for the Cork West (Dáil constituency), Cork West constituency at the 1937 Irish general election, 1937 general election. He was re-elected for Cork West at the next five general elections, until he retired from the Dáil at the 1954 Irish general election, 1954 general election. He was then stood in the 1954 election to Seanad Éireann, on the Agricultural Panel, and was elected to the 8th Seanad. He was re-elected by the Agricultural Panel at the next three Seanad elections, before retiring from politics in 1969, after completing his term in the 11th Seanad. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Cork Senior Hurling Team
The Cork county hurling team represents Cork in hurling and is governed by Cork GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League. Cork's home ground is Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Cork. The team's manager is (until recently) Kieran Kingston. The team last won the Munster Senior Championship in 2018, the All-Ireland Senior Championship in 2005 and the National League in 1998. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
